Building The Bridge

We began building the first bridge on the property to give us access to another section of the property. Equipment can not be easily transferred from one bank to the other, so a bridge was needed. In like manner the start of our journey to homesteading was all about building a bridge from one way of living to another.

Before building a bridge there is usually a purpose

Long days at work and lack of sleep from stress, not to mention the fights at the bar behind our home were just some of the things leading me to want move away from the rat race lifestyle.

What about the things in life that really matter. Building relationships, teaching your children how to work and have responsibilities, building something for your family that can produce meaning and purpose. That's when the dream of homesteading began.

Looking for land

All areas around where we live were way to high priced but also the type of land and the location didn't meet what we were looking for. Finally we settled for and area where my family is originally from the hills of Kentucky. Every year my Grandpa would take me to his old child hood home and tell me stories about their way of living and to be honest I always found it fascinating. The land we found reminded me so much of the stories and beautiful scenery I saw every year with my Grandpa.

Planning and Resources

So the building of a bridge needed to begin. My income was ok but not enough to afford getting our current home ready to sell and getting a living situation prepared out our new property. Also stuck at a job that was pretty much 6 day work weeks and alternating on call wasn't going to give me time to build anything hint the rat race. A plan needed to be put in place.

Sometimes you need face your fears when building a bridge. My fear was starting a business with my work based in Kentucky but it was the best solution that I could come up with to build an income suitable and a schedule tailored to make the move. After a year the bridge had structure and was supporting our transition to the other side with much sacrifice and believing in a dream that seemed impossible. We can see our transition to our new life coming to fruition.

Our bridge is not finished but its a work in progress. There is a lot of steps we are taking right now and learning new things is the norm for us now, there is never a dull moment and its an exciting adventure. Soon I plan to be uploading videos documenting much of the things we are doing to make everything possible. ![IMG_2030.JPG](
