Christmas Cards and Learning Zoom - December 6 & 7, 2025 @goldenoakfarm

Saturday was pretty much a washout. I did manage to get the trash out of the shed and my brother and I got it to the dump. While out there, I had to sweep the steps again, dump the ashes, and a couple other chores. It was cold and I was worn out when I got done at 10:30AM.

I mostly sat and read or watched Christmas videos the rest of the day. I did try to spend some time on the Zoom worksheets for the class on Monday night.

On Sunday I was determined to amount to something. I had no post to write, so I got started making Christmas cards around 6AM. I got a picture selected and laid out and had a greeting for inside. So I started printing.

I had almost 30 to do and about 10 in the printer started printing off center. Some I could still use, but I had to discard 3 before I got it to stop doing that. I had made inserts with the blog address in lieu of a newsletter. I got them written, recorded, put in an insert, addressed the envelopes and got the stamps on.

By 10:30AM they were all done, ready for delivery or the post office. Now all I had left to do was finish the decorating and get the big box off the treadmill. But I sat down with my feet up first.

The 2 things left to do was put up the handmade Christmas cards my sister used to make and find a place for the Father Christmas (above). I got up an hour later and got the cards up and the box moved. But the Father Christmas ended up staying right where he was, as I didn’t have another place to put him.

The big bookcase near my chair has many of my favorite things on it. My Jingle Bell painted pony is my favorite followed by the birch log candle holder my husband made when he was 7 years old. I had saved several things from the dump when my uncle’s house was cleaned out. The candle figures in the bookcase were also some I saved.

I had just sat down again when my #1 intern messages she and my general helper were on their way over! They had said 3PM and I’d planned to get my shower just before 2PM. So I got up and raced into the shower.

It turns out they had brought a friend and my #3 intern also. The plan was to teach this Neanderthal how to do Zoom on my #1 intern’s laptop, as mine are too old.

So once I was out of the shower and had greeted everyone, we set it up to try. Tom was on my #1 intern’s phone coaching. But I had not received the link for the Zoom class as they had said I would. I had written twice saying I hadn’t gotten it. (It finally came in ½ hour after they all left.)

So I didn’t get to learn much and so it was decided my #1 intern would come back at 6PM on Monday night and try to get me up to speed before the class at 7PM. She’d stay and help me through it all.

So it was lovely to have so many young people wandering the house. My general helper was giving her friend the tour of the house while we were messing with Zoom. Then she went out and cut bittersweet for making a “teapot” for one of her art classes in Boston.

But all too soon they had to head out to other commitments and I was left to watch a documentary called Lady Long Rider about a woman who did great long horseback rides, usually thousands of miles, after she turned 50 years old. My brother had come across the YouTube movie and sent it to me. I ordered the book from the library too.

It wasn’t to be quite so cold, upper teensF, but I got both stoves going early as my son is away and wouldn’t be up in the night tending them. I was in bed just after 8PM with the house ready for the night.

On Monday I have exercise class, laundry, a kitchen to clean up, and the Zoom thing at 7PM. So it will be a long day.

Love how you’re finding joy in the little moments, even with the Zoom and printing hiccups.
