On Tuesday morning I was up about 4:45AM and got my posts up. I got the kitchen finally cleaned up, all the stuff from Thanksgiving finally put away. I set up to feed house plants and in the process found the holly in the pantry.
I realized the pumpkins and wreaths were still outside, and if I had to sweep the steps and walks, I’d have to move them. So I got 3 totes and loaded them in. My brother came out just then and he helped me carry them around to the garden shed. Then he went up to the barn to put snow tires on his car.

I brought the wreaths in to hang to dry over the wood stove. My 2 brothers had gotten the plow on the truck before we ate Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.
I was as ready as I could be. The local weather guy was saying 5” – 8” for the area.

My brother can see the Little Trees sugar maple from his bedroom window and wondered what it was in the top of it. A squirrel had brought a black walnut from the tree 2 farms down and put it in the crotch of the tree.

My helper friend arrived at 9:30AM and there were just a couple flakes here and there. So he headed out to do the errands. But on his way back he went down a hill and around a corner and the salt spray the DPW had put down had made the snow very slippery. His truck’s back end came around and he landed in a guard rail. Minor damage, truck drivable, he was fine. But he decided he’d best head home before the storm got worse.
So I continued making the holly swags. I had enough holly for 3 regular size ones and 1 small one.

The snow really started to come down about ½ hour after my helper friend had headed to do errands and by the time he got back at 10:30AM we had a good amount.

Once he left, I swept the steps and walkways as foot prints would turn to ice if left. I ended up sweeping 3 times before I went to bed.
Mid afternoon I started trying to feed the house plants. I got them ¾ done but couldn’t stand up that long any more. So I read my Christmas book and listened to Christmas music.
My son went out around 6PM and shoveled some of the walkways. My brother went out around 8PM and plowed the driveway. I did the last sweeping once he was done. We had between 6” and 8” depending on where you looked. It was light fluffy stuff, easy to sweep or plow.

I was in bed just after 8:30PM and it was still snowing lightly.
On Wednesday I have exercise class, sweeping and shoveling to do, a window candle to repair, laundry to do, the kitchen to clean up, and an appointment in the afternoon. A homesteader is coming to get all the pumpkins sometime. So another busy day.
You have so much snow already! Hopefully it won't increase and let you do some works
Oh, no, the season is done outside until March or April!
You got more snow than we did. Ours might be 4-5" and 28°. Stay warm and careful sweeping those steps.
You got the chores done despite the snow's interference and that's to be commended. It's good the accident your helper got involved in wasn't that serious.

I always seem to find one last thing that needs to be put away/ gotten out of the way right before the first snow of the season! This year it was my little metal bicycle planter with the artificial fall leaf branches stuck into it. Got it put away just in time.
I was just thinking about that, what I had forgotten, but I didn't think of anything. Full moon last night on the snow, the house was bright in the night from the reflection.
Wow, preparing for a snowstorm and making holly swags at the same time. Looks like you’re not just ready for winter, but doing it in style too.
