7 Years - January 24, 2025 @goldenoakfarm

Thursday was my 7th anniversary on HIVE. I can’t believe I’ve been posting nearly every day for 7 years.

2018

My Intro

I got a lot of questions about how I got started growing my own food so I wrote a second Intro.

I entered a lot of contests, wrote about life on the farm, and wrote some informational posts. I’d set up a calendar with a topic every day for 90 days.

By the end of the year, I was mostly writing about life.

2019

During this year I only wrote every 2 or 3 days about life on the farm for the first 9 months. Then in October I started writing every day until the end of the year. This was due to the construction starting and was much less about the farm.

2020

I wrote nearly every day until the end of November. Most of it was about the construction, and some about life and the farm. When my husband came home on hospice the end of November, the writing tapered off sharply, and then stopped in early December.

2021

There were no January posts in 2021 and I didn’t start posting again until mid February. I posted every couple days or every day throughout the year, as I tried to pull my life back together.

2022

The house was still under construction for the first couple months. Then I was back to writing about life and the farm. And I have continued to write almost every day since this time, except when I got Covid.

2023

There was the farm and a new cat.

2024

This was an unusual gardening year. We were in the gardens in March. I put the Christmas tree up in November and had a wonderful Christmas season.

Keeping the blog going has served as a memory for me. I have all the posts saved chronologically and I also filed them under topics up until 2022. So I can usually find whatever it is I need to know.

It’s also a way that many friends and family follow what is going on at the farm each day. Most are not on the platform so no comments. But they will either e-mail or call me if something strikes them.

As far as making any income from it, I’ve been waiting to see if it rises far higher than it’s been for the last few years. If not, I’ll just let the account grow.

Writing my post each morning when I get up is the one steady constant in my life and I look forward to editing the photos and writing each day.

🎉 Happy Hive Birthday! 🎉

Same here, I started blogging about all sorts of things, but mostly these days I blog about what I get up to day-to-day... its become almost a public diary at times, quite cathartic to process it and write it all up :-)

That's a really neat idea, you've turned your blog almost into a public mailing list, so your family/friends can keep up to date... have you tried encouraging them to join? Even if they just leave comments, they can still earn and be part of our ecosystem

I may not comment very often, but I do enjoy reading your blog. You lead a very different life to what I have, and I enjoy reading about your experiences.

Yes, I've asked a few times, but it's more complicated than pressing a few buttons. I am glad you read it too!
