The children are so excited. After years of refusing to take in pets, we finally have chickens. In spite of my denial of the fact that we have pets, they stay outside so technically they are not "huisdieren" as we say in Dutch. (Literally translated: home- or house animals)
No matter what we say or what we call them, the children are convinced we have pets. They want to stroke, pet, cuddle and pick them up. At the same time, unknown with animals like chickens, they are a little bit scared. "Will the chickens peck in my foot, she comes to me what do I do, oh dear, one of them did just poo on the floor, mama they flap their wings, is it going to sit on me?......." Just getting used to them, I'm sure in a couple of days time they will feel brave enough to go in by themselves.
The chickens, how will they adapt to so many of us? Maybe just not go in all at once. Poor animals, they just had a great adventure, don't know us yet and need peace and quiet. We'll leave them alone for a while and let them settle.
In the mean time, a first few pics and you can watch their arrival on youtube:
