People You Think You Can Trust. A Story About Getting House Plans Drawn Up.

We searched far and wide looking for someone to draw up our house plans. We are not building a traditional house so finding someone to draw the plans was going to be a task. Most people do not think outside the box when it comes to this as it is a normal thing to have a stick built house and drawing up plans for a straw bale or air crete house was not the normal thing.

We finally found someone that had no problem doing it and he was in the business for quite a while and seemed to know what he was doing. We talked to him or the phone and got some background on him and such as that. He was a pastor and a sheriffs chaplain and he does this at his home so his prices was right. I thought I will try this. We felt we could trust him.

He had an idea what we wanted so he told us that he would need a deposit of 500.00 dollars to get it started, I got a money order and sent it to him. Thought this is good, it will be a little bit and we will have house plans and something to go by as we built. He sent us PDF files and we would tell him the corrections we wanted and we done this time and time again. He never really listened to us and I would e-mail him what we needed and it never went the way we needed it to. We thought he was having trouble with a round house lets try a hexagon house and it was the same thing. Did not seem to listen to us.

He does not answer his phone and he will not respond to e-mail anymore. So I guess we are out a deposit because he told us when I asked him about it NO REFUNDS so we will have to figure out house plans again. We will have to pick the next person more carefully, as I thought that this person would be honorable and do what was right.

I do not want anyone else to get into the same situation I am in with this. He tried then it just seemed like he did not care and he quit trying to get it done and it is disappointing that it did not get done. I am not going to say it is not about the money because truthfully some of this is about the money. It takes a lot to get 500.00 saved up and it hurt in a lot of ways to lose that money. My wife always tell me karma will take care of things, keep positive and it will all work out. I try to do that but sometimes the bitterness is a hard pill to swallow. Now it is time to move on and not dwell in the past but look to the future. Thank you for reading our posts, following us and all your support on our journey of building a homestead.
Hope you have a great day!

What I am not seeing is a discussion on a contract, no matter who it is..

There was a verbal contract on this. I could take him to small claims court but it would cost more than it is really worth. As it goes I would still end up with nothing and pay out more.

You just learned a lesson and it cost you $500.

Yes, It will never happen again if I can help it. Moral to this story trust but verify!

I bought an old farm house and I love the land but the house needs lots of work and I almost don't even know where to begin. And I have the the whole homestead mindset.

Most old farmhouses do need lots of work. Do not get discouraged, pick one thing and start there and then move to another one. One at a time and that farmhouse will be great.

oh wow. I'm sorry to hear your hard experience.. but we learn for everything right? haha
hopefully you will get the house plans that you want ! ♥ :)

They say bought experience is the best, right! Thanks!
