An unexpected call from the Alaska state troopers, and instead of going to work I will be processing a moose. This particular moose was hit by the Alaska railroad. See here in the great north tundra if you hit a moose you can’t keep it, it goes to a salvage team also refered to as a charity. Much better than a 600-1300lb anaimal going to waist. This piticular moose looks to be a 2 year old. He would have been safe this hunting season. We can only harvest bulls that are spike fork or 50” antler spread, also 3 brow tines makes any moose legal.
I even got my wife @alaskahippie involved it was 3°f so she is dressed slightly warm, and is still fighting this nasty cold.
We got the call at 1230pm and are currently working on the last quarter it is now 0130 the next day. We have over 100lbs of burger 20 good sized roasts and around 50 steaks. Best guess we got over 300lbs of meat off this guy. Big thanks to the Alaska moose federation for delivering it to our house. $100 annual membership fee is much worth it
That's real living. I've seen in Poland only one time a moose.
There are a lot more here in Alaska. And they tast great
Thats really cool. Good thing it was delivered. The prius in the background would have been useless 😉
The Prius is not know for its cargo carrying capibility. But I can’t beat it when I drive 130 miles round trip to work. One draw back it does not like the cold.
Nice score
Moose meat is one of the best tasting meats in the world enjoy.
All natural hormone free meat. You pay extra for that at the store.
I can't even imagine processing a moose in the field. I would like to try though. Good eating!
Dressing a moose in the field is always a challenge.they like to fall between trees or in the tusicks.
