I was interviewed once again by @makinstuff on his podcast in the last few days. We talked about the farm, my solar array, and homesteading in general. It is an hour long interview and as always with @makinstuff it was a good time. You can find the link at the bottom of the post if you want to watch it yourself. But I also captured some of the moments in screenshots below.
Mowing the fields is discussed, we talk about what I will be doing with the hay and some of the challenges we ran into along the way.
I sent him a bunch of peakd links to my Hive posts, so we went over those during the interview.
The raised garden was discussed as well, talking about what I am growing now compared to previously.
I need to do another garden update soon..lol
@makinstuff is very much into gardening as well and has been working on their own project so it was cool to chat about all of that.
We went back and forth showing off my posts and talking about them.
Mulching the fields for our upcoming garlic project is discussed as well.
We look at the solar array @makinstuff helped to build with his friend at my homestead.
I tell him about all that has been changed on the solar array since they left back to Alabama.
Hehe.. I am being watched.
The forest road is talked about in much detail, about the two roads and what we have done to make them passable again.
We talk about how great the UTV is and how we get all over the property with it.
I had a lot of fun talking with him for an hour. We covered a lot during that time on his show.
Cool post and interview. The Solar experience seems in alignment with my experience. We need the panels and batteries to be half the cost so we can buy twice as many! I love your battery setup, mine were sooo expensive. You should recoup the cost much quicker. Will be interesting to see how it plays out in the next few years with all the battery research and improvements coming.

Thanks! Yeah it has been quite costly. But long term I think the investment will be worth it.
Did you get lithium iron phosphate batteries? And so how many amp hours (AH) is your bank?
Yes, these are the Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. I have four of the Enphase IQ 5P rated at 5kWh each, or approx. 20 KWh total. It runs the whole house including both AC at heavy summertime capacity for about 6-8 hours. Could likely get 24-48hrs of emergency power if we turned off the AC and only used critical items like freezer, fridge, internet router, few lights, etc. Would love to double that at some point, but man they are expensive. Might supplement with a few of the portable battery / generator combo's eventually.
I'm not surprised makinstuff wanted to interview you @solominer given that what you do on your property is extraordinary.
The improvements you've made to the roads on your property have been wonderful, and the solar system you have is great.
Have a great day dear friend
It was very nice of him, glad to go on his show and talk for a bit.
Thanks, hope you have a good day too.
Very cool! Plus you have been stirring up trouble on Hive too, I hope you didn't forget to mention that! :)
Lol! I did say at the end of the podcast you can find me on Hive and I spend many hours a day on the platform, but nah I did not get into the politics here.
I’d watch the interview when I’m done here
Also, do you farm for a living or you just plant things you can use at home?
Oh nice.
We are planning on farming for a living, but right now its just for fun.
Oh.. It's my first to know that you're famous. 😊😊
Hah... I hope not
Hahaha, it would be great. Promoting Hive more.😊
Hello @solominer good day
What interesting topics you have discussed with makinstuff, with everything you do in your field an hour is not much time, there must have been many things left to talk about
I like these podcasts because they allow us to meet the faces of the people behind the names in #hive
Yeah true, it was not much time to discuss everything going on. But glad you liked what we talked about and got to see me talking on camera for a bit. I will try to do more videos including myself.
Wow you are a truly amazing person, you deserve to be a role model, have a nice day my brother ♥️
Aww thank you.. I do appreciate it.
Wow! You are doing so great....waiting for your next garden journal and about the road as well 😀😀
Thanks! Ah okay I will work on some update posts about those things very soon.
Waiting 😀😀

Wow cool it turns out you are famous my brother @solominer you are also great at gardening good luck always yes 😎
Hah.. Hes a long time friend of mine. So glad to be on his show again. I do not think I am famous.
thank you
A gardener par excellence, you are really deep into this. 👍
We sure are, but glad we are now getting some of the fruits of our labor.
Hehehe I love the “rinse and repeat part”, it shows your consistency.
It was nice to finally see your face and listen to you talk.
Well done.
Hah yup, that is how it goes around here.
Thanks! Will try to do more talking videos.
@solominer Cool to see you on the show man! takes some guts to pick up your stuff and move to a new city. I love reading your blog posts and hope to see them for a long time. I'll be happy to support your project of turning it into a commercial farm one day.
It's really cool to be out in nature with all the wild animals and it's still your property! That's amazing. I live downtown, so it's a concrete jungle for me. Can't do a furnace here lol 😄 I did live way out in Tahlequah, Oklahoma for a while which was pretty out in the woods.
Your solar array system looks really amazing.
Glad you liked the show, yeah it sure was quite the journey. But I feel much better in my new home and happy here.
Well hope you can live out in the woods one day, but its hard to find a work/life balance far out without dealing with long drives so I feel ya.
Thanks! It has been years in the making, but all coming together now.
I could easily say that Solominer looks like one of those Miami tycoons like Scarface Haha.
Back to the subject of the post, it's great to see how they're doing with the Web2 ecosystem and sharing via PodCast.
Haha! I can see that look with my Hawaiian shirts. I just bought them, so glad I was able to wear them on a show. Hopefully I can wear them again around the hoildays.
Yeah I am glad as well the host was sharing my peakd links, so others watching can see the Hive dapps like peakd.
An hour is hardly much time given what you do in your area. What fascinating issues you and @makinstuff discussed! There must have been a lot of topics to cover.
Your solar system is excellent, and the modifications you've made to your property are fantastic. Considering the incredible work you do on your property, I'm not surprised that @makinstuff wanted to interview you, @solominer. KUDOS!!!

We could have talked for many hours I think, so yeah getting it all in 1 hour did not cover everything going on for sure.
Ah well I told him I owed him a interview when he was in town helping me with my solar array a few months back. So glad I could join again, maybe one day he will offer again.
Thanks for the tokens

I will be experimenting with a raised bed or two in this next year or so. I may hit you up with a few questions. And I am thinking about a floating greenhouse on our pond.
Oh nice, well good luck with him. If I could do them over again I would change many things. Using sheet metal for the sides would save a lot of money. You could still use wood, but it would be quite strong with the metal that is put on roofs.
Wow never heard of that.. I had a crazy idea of floating solar panel arrays over my pond.. but not the green house.. Curious how that turns out.
Wow, this is so sweet and nice, you really a famous one, nice to see you on a stage like this, good work 👍👍👍
Haha hopefully not famous but it was good talking with him.
Is really amazing to see your solar array system being nice, you did a nice work, You are indeed a real model, I love that, welldone Sir.
Thanks, glad you liked seeing it.
Big dude, I love your gardening styles! 😁
Ah thank you
