Spending Money to Further Homesteading Goals

in #homestead5 years ago

Didn't get anything done outside today except taking the battery off of the riding mower and putting it on the charger. Hopefully it hasn't gone the way of my solar battery. We just haven't been using the riding mower since the grass isn't growing right now. I'll put it back in (on?) the mower tomorrow and see if it starts up.

But I did get a chest freezer from work to help further my food preservation/self sufficiency goals. We got a one time use extra discount and I used it for this.

With the black Friday sales, I got an instant pot for half of what it usually costs.

With any xmas money I get, I want to buy a dehydrator.

I actually wanted to make bread and yogurt in the crockpot today (not at the same time) and get some ground turkey canned. But I had to run into town to get hay, then I ran the son into town for work, got the chest freezer while I was there, then went to the local bank and started a bank account.

I did that last part because this way I can pay my cc's and do my projects without having to worry about overdrawing our main account. Our main bank is also in another city so this gives us some place local in case we need it.

K, think that's it for today. It's a chilly night and I've got a fire going and it's in need of tending. C-yas.

What brand dehydrator are you thinking of?

I'd like to get something like the Excalibur because they're supposed to be really good. But they're also kind of expensive. I think our store has a little Presto available so I'll probably end up just going with that.

I got a reconditioned Excalibur from Excalibur company. It had the same 10 year warrantee. I've been using it regularly for at least 10 years with 0 problems. It's still probably more than the cheap ones, but I like the quality and nutritional value of the food I get from it that would be missing from cheap ones.
