Ahhhh this is so true.
It is true for adults as well as for children. We practice child-led learning around here, and it is very difficult to let go of the idea that you have to cram 'school subjects' down a child's throat for them to learn. They learn what they need very well! If THEY are the ones initiating the learning, it happens SO fast! If you MAKE them learn something they are not interested in, it is like pulling teeth...
