For the last few days, I have been suffering from indigestion. So, being the do-it-yourselfer and home remedy nut that I am, I started searching for natural remedies--and wouldn't you know it! There are tons of them. Let's explore them together.

Ginger

Ginger is a very effective remedy for upset stomach, especially when the cause of your indigestion is overeating. This is because it helps stimulate the flow of enzymes and digestive juices that help digest food. You can nibble on candied ginger or drink it as a tea after a heavy meal. You can also add it to your food if you wish. There are tons of recipes where you can add ginger as a spice in your food. To make ginger tea, you need to boil a teaspoon of grated ginger in 1 cup water for about 5 to 10 minutes or mix 2 teaspoons of ginger juice and a teaspoon of honey in a cup of warm water.

Baking Soda

Baking soda acts like an antacid so it lessens stomach acid by neutralizing it which helps relieve painful gas. Add a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water then add a few drops of lemon juice.

Herbal Tea

A hot cup of herbal tea is exactly what you need after eating a heavy meal to prevent indigestion. Peppermint and chamomile tea are especially effective in calming the stomach. It's also very easy to prepare. You only need to dip an herbal tea bag in a cup of hot water for approximately 5 minutes. If you want to do it the old fashion way, you can steep 1 1/2 teaspoon of dried peppermint or chamomile leaves in a cup of hot water.

Bitter Beer

A half glass of bitter beer can help with indigestion because it is rich in hops which is an herb that helps encourage digestion. Remember, you only need to drink half a glass. If you drink too much, you will end up with a depressed digestion instead.

Apple Cider Vinegar

It's weird to learn that something as acidic as apple cider vinegar has an alkalizing effect that can actually help settle indigestion. Combine a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of warm water. Drink it 30 minutes before you have a hearty meal.
