How to be productive when you work from home

in #home7 years ago

If you work from home, it’s easy to get distracted, but it’s not impossible to remain productive as long as you follow some rules. While the world is evolving along with the work/personal life balance, the 9 to 5 program is starting to fade. Many people have the freedom of working from home, as long as they respect their deadlines.

This way of working can be a blessing and a nightmare too. You have the freedom of working in the comfort of your own home, but it get’s difficult to focus.

There are a few things you should to if you want to be productive and finish your tasks on time, like making a schedule, for example. At home, you don’t have a program like you would have in an office, so it’s possible that you will end up wasting more time than working.

Time passes easily when it doesn’t have a structure, and you don’t want to end up doing everything in a hurry. If you work best in the morning, set your working hours then. If, on the contrary, you’re more productive in the evening, work then.

Try to eliminate every distraction. Our phones take us out of rhythm, they make us lose our focus, so it’s best to put them aside, preferably on silent mode. Check your email or texts when you’re on a break. Another distraction can be your family or friends.

Try not to make your working program after them. Learn how to set some limits and tell them nicely that you have to work in order to be productive. Let them know what’s your working schedule to avoid conflicts or temptations.

Lastly, many of us work better with music on, and this is a benefit of working from home, because most of the time you can’t listen to music in an office. Your disposition is influenced by music, weather, TV, what you ate for breakfast, so music is an essential factor in the way you feel and how well you work.

If your work involves writing, and it probably does, choose positive, relaxing music, but preferably with no words, otherwise you will get distracted by the lyrics.

good job bro......../////////

Working from home is what me and my co workers (including my employer) have considered for a while now. Basically we think that we are paying rent just to sit at some place together while we do not really need that. We could use someone's house to gather and talk about important stuff from time to time and we are not a company which has customers that visit as it's not needed.

BUT, we all do have wifes/children/pets which could distract us. If you're home, it's alot easier to do something which will only take u a couple of minutes to help your family or friends with something. Plus, family or friends will choose you to call during an emergency instead of someone else who could be free as well. They would not understand that you're not free even though you are at home wearing your pyjamas.

It's hard to tell family members/friends to leave you alone and that they have to respect your work, but we considered that this might be too hard to tell them in cases of emergencies. Don't get me wrong, someone should always be able to drop their work in some kinds of emergencies, but not all of them. Do you have any idea's about this? Especially in the case of a company, what if 80% manages to get it working but the remaining 20% fails to do this? Wouldn't that hurt a company?

Such an amazing work.i too work from home.thanks a lot these are usefull tips for me.

Time passes easily when it doesn’t have a structure

Valuable point. I think this is the reason why the weekend passes so quickly while the weekdays in office tend to last for eternity, lolz ...
