Currency Museum in Ottawa

The currency museum (Currency Museum) houses the most complete collection of various coins and banknotes in the whole of Canada. Here are collected money from different chronological periods: from the time of the colonists to the present day. You will be surprised, but the museum stores more than one hundred thousand names of different monetary currencies.

Initially, the museum was run by the National Bank. It had the purpose of delivering historical information about the national Canadian currency to people, and it was also planned to demonstrate the collected monetary units, starting from the earliest periods. Later the assortment grew, and now coins and banknotes are kept here not only from Canada, but also from around the world - these are money samples from different countries.

There are even such unusual exhibits as the round stone - the currency, which is paid in the Pacific Ocean, on the island of Yap.

The museum was created and replenished thanks to the generosity of ordinary people and collectors. They gladly gave their coins, not sparing collections and invested funds. Douglas Fergison deserved great gratitude, he donated money to the museum, dating from the Middle Ages, as well as a new currency collected around the world.
