A Hobby That Makes Me Happy

Hi Everyone!

I believe this pandemic helped me to discover more about myself and what I do. Crocheting is no exception. I can consider myself as a person that can do a variety of hobbies and skills. A hobby that I discovered is crochet. Crochet, similar to knitting, is a handicraft that involves yarn and a crochet hook. In this handicraft, you loop yarn over a crochet hook to create a patterned fabric mostly bags, hats or scarves.

This is a hobby that I truly enjoy doing and is very therapeutic. When I'm bored, I would search up You tube tutorials and crochet for hours. Speaking of You tube, I learned to crochet through multiple easy-to-follow tutorials on the application. I definitely didn't learn right away after one video but after watching more videos that tackle about the different skills involved in crochet, I was finally able to make my very first crochet project.

After mastering crochet, I was inspired by other small businesses to open up crochet commissions. This is a process where people can inquire or request for a crochet project with a price in return. I was really desperate at that time and decided to overcome my insecurities, slowly opening commissions. I started doing commissions for my relative, the first project was a bucket hat for my two cousins and a cute hat for my dog. The other commissions were requested by my internet friends which I was very thankful of. I will forever be grateful to my family and friends for being so supportive of my small business. I didn't really have that much customers but I did make some big projects from customers on the internet.

These are projects that I am proud of. I took a few months off from crocheting until this December when my close friend from another city asked me to make coasters that she'll gift to her friends which I gladly complied. I really had so much fun making these coasters and this was the first big order I ever had.

To be honest, I was never confident with my skills in crocheting but the support I received when I first opened commissions helped me boost my confidence. It doesn't matter if you don't have any customers at first, it is completely normal. All you have to do is believe in yourself and learn to wait. It's never easy from the start, we all know that, but never give up.

Right now, I decided to close my commissions for a bit and open them for the new year with a new attitude and a better me. I'll focus on being confident on my crochet skills and practice even more. Remember that it is important to never rush yourself and do thing that feel right to you. Do what makes you happy, do the things that help you focus on your own happiness.
