Hello! How are you my dear hive friends especially to all members of this community? I hope you are all fine and safe. It's been a long time since I was not able to share content related to the garden. I have been very busy since the opening of classes. I was not able to replant and renovate my garden at home or even in school. But today, I will share with you how my husband harvested our kalamansi. It was the first time we harvested several kalamansi and sold them to buyers. This was planted almost 10 years ago and thanks God we had our first harvest last weekend.
It was planted beside our house because there was a superstitious belief that all plants with thorns are not good to be planted in front of our house for it will bring bad luck. So, we planted it beside our house to avoid bad luck. Nothing will lost from us if we believe. Whether it is true or not it's ok.
The seedling we planted before was coming from the seeds. It was not like other seedlings that it was a marcotted one. It will bear flowers right away since it's already mature. While the one coming from seeds will not since we will wait until it becomes mature and ready to bear flowers. That was the reason why it took almost 10 years of waiting for this plant to grow and bear flowers and produce fruits.
What is Kalamamsi
Kalamansi belongs to a citrus family. It has a dark green colored skin when unripe and turns yellow when it's already ripe. It has also several uses. It's a good source of vitamin C, it is added to food as a preservative, adds aroma and tastes on some foods, and an ideal for garnishing.
When and How to Harvest Kalamansi
Kalamansi is harvested when it is already mature or reaches almost 101 days from the day of its flowering. It is harvested by reaping or cutting the parts of the stems with mature fruits so that they will not be damaged. Damaged fruits will easily rot and it's no longer advisable to display them in the market.
We harvested almost 600 pcs. We sold it to our friends. They were very interested since the price is lowered compared to the market. Many of our friends contacted us to buy the newly harvested kalamansi. We earned a total of 300 pesos since we sold 50 pesos for every hundred. I never expected I could harvest that number and earn a little with just only single plant of kalamansi. This proves that when we plant we will harvest.
That's all for now. Thank you for sharing your time reading my blogs.
