⛵ ⛵ ⛵ ⛵...(Tour of "High Island")...Continued...

[Last time...]
Suddenly, Petty Officer Tamaralovelace called out in a painful voice,
“Lupega- I have faith in you!”
Ignoring the plead, Hack gave his order in a stern voice,
”Drop heem!”

[Seneca camp…two miles south…five hours earlier…]
“Paiwo cha! Tena har cho kowef!” (Translated: “A great canoe! Coming up the river!”)

“Nuw cha har cho Kowef!” (“No great canoes come up river!”), The Chief replied indignantly as he sat back and crossed his arms as the sparks from the long-hut fire flared up.

“Yes! It is coming up the river!” (Translated…), The warrior protested in an urgent tone, pointing north.
“Great canoes stay on the great lakes!”
“Yes, but this one is coming up-river!” The warrior insisted, banging his fist on his chest in a sign of sincerity.
The Chief wrinkled his brow and looked down in thought…finally he spoke,
“This has never happened! Where can it go? The falls are just a day's journey south!”
“Maybe here! Maybe the great canoe means to attack Seneca?!”
Again the Chief thought deeply before answering…
“Take twenty warriors! Go watch the great canoe and send runners back with report!”
The head warrior nodded and bowed, then quickly left the long-house with his companions.
[On the Silverton…bridge deck…]

After a seemingly uncomfortable length of time, Warrant officer Hack ordered the gambrel hauled back up out of the water…
Cockpit Mate Lupega coughed and gasped and shook his head as he took in chest full of fresh air!

Though the ‘Dead Man’s Dunk’ had cleared away some of his drunkedness, his mind was still cloudy as he dangled in the air, ten feet to the rear of the ship. Hack stood front and center at the stern rail and lit a cigarette. Exhaling the smoke into the night air he then called out to Lupega…

“What’s th’ nam o’ thes ship Lad?!”
Lupega gathered his whits for a moment and gazed back at him…

“The…ship?”
”Think Lad…what’s th’ nam o’ thes ship?!” Hack asked again as he took another drag on his cigarette.
“I…I don’t know…”
Hack flicked the cigarette over the rail, turned to Warrant Officer Trumpman and said,
"Drop heem!”
[On the eastern bank of the river…in the forest just across from the Silverton…]

Twenty well-muscled warriors stayed low in the cedar trees along the river bank. Peering out at the glowing lanterns of the Silverton, the warriors watch a very odd spectacle transpire.
At the stern of the ship dangled a man on a rope. Just a few feet away stood a group of men, high up on the great canoe. One of them was calling out angrily, in a strange tongue, and then…the man on the rope was dropped into the river!

The warriors whispered among themselves in dismay…
“These men are bad!” One said quickly to the lead warrior, “They’re killing a man- one of their own tribe!”
The lead warrior frowned, “Be quiet! We will watch them for a while.”

“No! We should warn the Chief! Look, they even kill the pale-face!” The younger, worried warrior pressed.

“Calm down! What do we care if these strange men kill a pale-face?! Would you not do the same Running Fox?!”
The younger warrior paused as he thought and finally nodded reluctantly.
“Watch them now! We must count their numbers!” The lead warrior replied holding one hand up in a command of silence.

I hope Lupega regains his memory soon. Too many dunks in the drink might addle his brain permanently, not to mention it may give him a complex that Hack doesn't like him lol
I already feel like YOU don't either hahaha.I have a vague memory of you, I remember feeling affection for you
Lupega is in double danger , it's best to get him out of the river. Trouble is brewing.
