Bangladesh wants to see peace and stability in Myanmar, a foreign ministry press release said, adding that Bangladesh strongly adheres to and promotes democratic principles. As friendly neighbors, we hope that the democratic process and constitutional system will remain in place in Myanmar.
The Foreign Ministry said in an immediate response to the military's arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Mint, leaders of Myanmar's ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), on Monday (February 1st).
"We remain committed to developing mutually beneficial relations with Myanmar and working with Myanmar for the safe and sustainable repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Bangladesh," the press release said. We hope that these processes will continue in due course.
