Preamble and its essence

Our preamble is like a preface to what we offer to our people and what does the state expects in return for following this constitution religiously. The important keywords mentioned in our preamble are as follows – Sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic, justice, liberty, equality, unity, integrity, and fraternity.

If you dissect the given keywords you can easily understand that these keywords have a greater sense than just being few keystone words in the preamble.

Sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic – shows the type of government we have.

Justice, liberty, equality – is what government will ensure to us or the citizens.

Fraternity, unity, and integrity – are what government expects from us.

1. Sovereign – it means that we are free to take independent decisions in our international circumstances like signing or making a deal or pact with other countries.
2. Socialist – it means that the market and government will together manage the means of production and welfare of people.
3. Secular – Government does not have any official religion.
4. Democratic – we have government offices that are directly or indirectly formed due to the participation of people.
5. Republic – head of the government is elected by people and not hereditary as in monarch government.
6. Justice – equal before the law.
7. Liberty – Individual has also the part and is allowed to take actions best suited for their living.
8. Equality – no discrimination yet giving the same level playing field for every class of society even in form of reservation or special provisions.
9. Fraternity – brotherhood and feeling of oneness
10. Unity and integrity – we are one and we will remain as one even though we can have differences among ourselves.
