Here is the news

We are now a week into Hive and lots has been happening. Dapps have migrated, but not all of them will as some developers were excluded from the airdrop for supporting Steemit. I see some people are posting to both blockchains, but I will probably not do that as I do not have time to be monitoring both. I am powering down my Steem and just transferred the first batch to Hive using the @blocktrades exchange. The rate is not great at over 2 Steem to 1 Hive, and it may get worse.

Rates
Prices from @coingecko

In the next weeks a lot of people will be dumping Steem on the market and many will buy Hive, so expect the prices to diverge. For now there is a massive difference in volume between them. Someone needs to tell the price monitoring sites how many Hive coins there are so they can work out the market cap and rank it appropriately. By the time I power down the last of my Steem it may be 10 to 1, but maybe Justin will do me a favour and try to prop up Steem.

Busy bees

Here are some people to check out for #FollowFriday. Most of my friends from Steem have moved over, but a few are dithering. They will have some Hive waiting for them anyway.

  • @revisesociology is writing some thoughtful posts, as you would expect from a teacher. He does like a bit of @SteemMonsters even though it has not moved the Hive yet. He is in higher leagues than me, but then he invests more in good cards.
  • I see fellow runner @shazza has posted on Hive. Like many she is stressed out by the corona lockdown. We can still be social online and support each other.
  • @detlev has moved the Beer Saturday challenge over to Hive. I have not had so many beers lately as I am not getting to the pub. May have to buy some to drink at home.
  • @demotruk started an electric vehicles community. I have not been keeping up with developments, but I still hope to get my first EV this year, depending on circumstances.
  • I have been chatting to @papilloncharity for years and he has kept active all that time as well as running a charity in South Africa helping the needy. He has a great eye for nature photography.
  • @atheistrepublic do not shy away from reporting on controversial topics, but they aim to expose the hypocrisy of some religious people in their videos. Some of these stories are crazy and often tragic.
  • @stateofthedapps have charts to show activity on various blockchains. Some Hive dapps are already ranking highly, but a fair few are missing. Let them know about those.

The doghouse

As we expected some of those who exploited Steem for pure profit moved over the Hive and some of the vote sellers are operating here already. One user of those is @apon6431 who has been buying hefty votes for his own comments to try and sneak under the radar. He does not hold much Hive Power, but still does not give many votes to others. Most of his pending rewards have been wiped out, but we need to be vigilant. Others will do the same and steal rewards from those who actually have community support.

Final words

As on Steem it is up to the community to make Hive great. We are small, but we could be mighty. We need to build up the community and bring in more creative people who can make it an attractive place to be whilst avoiding some of the issues that held Steem back.

Hive five!

A great thank you for the mention here Sir Steve.
We certainly need the exposure.
Blessings to you guys!

I noticed that a few posts seemed to be getting huge upvotes from the usual suspects and wondered wtf was going on?

It appears that the voting bots are back?.

I'm cross posting to both chains and powering down my steem.

My view is that steemit is now just another website where we can pick up some google juice for ranking purposes.

Who knows what Justin may do? He has the money to manipulate the steem price up or down.

My view is that he is forcing the steem price down so that he can pick it up for peanuts?

The hive price is interesting to watch too.

I am not sure people are buying the big votes, but the bug accounts can give them away whilst reaping the curation rewards. I did check some actual bots, but they are not that active for now. I and others will pounce on anyone who just buys votes.

I will mainly just take curation from my auto-votes on Steem until I have powered down. I cannot be bothered to post there any more. It will indeed be interesting to see how the prices go. People may be powering down on both, but I would hope those looking to go with Hive will be selling Steem to buy HIVE. That could be millions of Steem.

Fun times.

I saw that too.

People may be powering down on both

I'd started a power down on steem a week or so before the hive fork and when I checked into my new hive wallet it was also powering down as that was what the snapshot took of the steem blockchain.

I cancelled the hive power down which also cancelled the steem power down! To early I guess?

Now it's settled down a bit. I stopped the hive power down and restarted the steem power down.

I assume that there are many accounts that maybe haven't realised that this happened?

I think there was some issue that caused that initially. Some will want to cash out the airdrop anyway if they are not bothered about the community. I hope to boost my HP considerably in the next few weeks.

I've been watching the markets and should have sold off the liquid hive last week like a lot of people did.

I could have bought it back now and doubled my hive but day trading is so dull! 😂👍

I'm just a hodler I guess 😂👍

I didn't get the best rate on what I sold for Steem on Friday. Would get a better rate now. I may wait a bit this week. I would hope to get to at least 40k HP. Not going to worry if I don't optimise my trades.

Some people put so much effort into trying to exploit the system. The same effort spent networking and posting would probably be more fruitful for them, and everyone.

Some of it is so blatant. They are not even trying to social. I appreciate some are desperate for money, but it needed to be earned.

Abuse is harder to detect without Steemworld, but we are not going to get that on Hive. @enforcer48 suggested using the wallet, and the peakd one has some filtering that can be useful.

It's not so bad yet but needs keeping an eye on.

@enforcer48 suggested using the wallet, and the peakd one has some filtering that can be useful.

For now.

I have been checking the wallets of vote sellers. You soon see who is buying multiple votes. Maybe someone can build some tools to help with this task.

Some good follows there, cheers for the mention~!

Feels fresh being here, and I'm motivated to write a bit as for some reason I find myself with some extra time on my hands ATM!

Thanks for the DV tip, I feel a bit lost on that front without SFR.

We can still post about abusers on the SFR discord. I will keep an eye out for more.

I was going to convert some of my Steem to Hive the other day, but the rate was so horrible I wasn't sure I could really justify it. I know the longer I wait the worse it will probably get...

I think it may be better to do it sooner. It may be depressing to see it get worse over the weeks. I am thinking of cashing out some Steem. I have not spent any in ages.

I expect STEEM to be valued under 5 cents after about 13 weeks.

It will be interesting to see how it goes. Some people want to stick with it, but it's really going downhill. The Steemit account is giving full votes and downvotes. Whoever operates it doesn't seem to understand how it works.

Well they can do that. Whoever is using it might know exactly what they are doing and trying to salvage some money before things go downhill. Greed can overtake anyone quite easily.
I don't wish Steem ill, but it looks like its going that way with Sun.

I appreciate your thoughts that its complicated to maintaining both blockchain, but steem is the first love and having hesitate to left it!

The price is almost times two the steem price

It sure is, and the difference will increase. Sold any Steem lately?

i hope people selling their hive coin will not cause it to fall.

Well that's how markets work. Some people will see the airdrop as an opportunity to make some money. Hive has already dropped a bit.
