1966 - Boston Marathon: Bobbi Gibb asks the race director whether she is allowed to participate in the Marathon even though she is a woman. He said no because women are not physically capable of running a marathon. Gibb, at the age of 23, runs anyway and leaves two-thirds of the men behind her.
