On using the instability of HBDs to yer advantage...

in #hive2 days ago

ATM you can just about get equivalence for USDT-HIVE compared to HBD-HIVE....

Here's the situation on good old Binance...

And on the internal HIVE-HBD market...

That was around 19.00 on 08/01/2025, in case yer American that's proper English date format with all the numbers in the correct order. So January, not August.

However, HBD is very much a stablish coin....

A long time/ few days ago when Hive was doing its pumpity pump thing and you could buy it for well over $0.60 on Binance....

At the same time HBDs were a-pumpity pumping along with HBDs, so you were looking at more like 0.55 HBD per HIVE...

This is a little bit of an inconvenience in some ways as to get the best rate for yer Hive during pumpytime you have to physically send it to Binance, and that takes around 20 seconds, so you have to do some thumb twiddling.

However if you have some liquid HBDs you CAN if you want BUY some Hive on the internal market, say for 0.55 HBDs and then SELL on Binance for, in the case of a few days ago, $0.65....

That's an impressive 10% arbitrage right there.

And then if you would rather have some of those HBDs back rather than USDT you simply have to wait a few days to buy-back Hive on Binance, transfer it to Hive land and then swap for HBDs at roughly the same rate.

Ideally you'll have liquids of all these funds on both Binance and the internal....

That way you can swap out IMMEDIATELY. Honestly, if you are having to wait for funds to transfer, even if it only takes under a minute with all the faff, you can still get stung with a rapidly changing rate.

NB this is precisely what I did this week, sell some Hive for USDT, while buying at the same time with HBD, and now I've swapped some of that back for roughly equivalence, I did loose a few Hive.

Now I'm in a much better position with some Liquid HBDs in case this happens again, and then Liquid Hive on Binance.

Only works with small volumes...

I tend to stick to swapping 100s of Hives in one go, if yer aiming to do this with 4 figures, it might all go pear shaped...

And finally, is it worth it...?

Well I want most of my stable coins as HBDs rather than USDT so I can stake, eventually, so I'm happy with HBD.

The real question is whether it's worth BUYING when Hive is pumping with HBD, it might just be easier just to sell everything on Binance when it's high and then buy back on Binance when it's low and sack of the internal market altogether, until that is I'm ready to stake that HBD in a bear market.

Whatever, it's nice to have options!

i tried to start a binance account, came up that it was unavailable in the UK???

Oh really.., it may be closed shop unless you already have an account. That is interesting.

yes I guess so

That's not good for my plan :) Seems I will delay my HBD to HIVE conversion a little more.

Sucks US people can't use Binance

While the Hive price increased excessively, the HBD price increased to $1.10-$1.20. This seems more profitable than staking HBD. Moreover, you save time.

Sounds like a good plan. But I don't want to use Binance, even if that hurts me. I guess I'm a masochist. 🤣

Time to get back on the Binance then...

i'm looking to cash some of my saved HBD out this year, so this will be a good exercise for me

Thanks Karl for now!
