One of the goals of @resonator is to help the Hive community to get better at promoting Hive so that we can accelerate it's growth and take it to the next level. What are the main reasons that people use Hive and who do they benefit?
Hive is a decentralized community, so the Hive 'team' is big but mostly doesn't work in a coordinated way. Being able to combine the talents of each of the Hive users into a group effort would be a very powerful boost for speeding up adoption of Hive's Web 3.0 technology and although this is hard to do, we can help the situation by providing resources, tips and tools for Hive's growth that anyone can use.
We all have our own vision of where Hive can go, but everyone who holds Hive tokens can probably agree that attracting new users, new investment and new opportunities for Hive is going to benefit us all. Maximizing the effectiveness of our efforts to promote Hive requires us to work together and the more we can agree on important questions, the easier that will be.
In this post we are going to discuss the main selling points that Hive currently has and also what type of people are motivated to use Hive and why. This is a useful starting point for like minded people to come together to help each other to promote Hive and also helps us to all be on the same page in this important area.
If you think we have missed out any important points or have comments then please let us know by replying to this post!
Top Selling Points of The Hive Blockchain
What does the Hive blockchain have to offer?
1. Proof of Brain (Get paid to post on social media!)
Although there are many other great features on Hive, the best known one and the one that most people speak about is that Hive contains a built-in way to receive financial rewards for posting creative content online. Proof of Brain began on the Steem blockchain that came before Hive and is designed to allow the community to upvote posts that they subjectively decide are valuable in some way.
The system constantly creates new tokens and awards these to accounts who receive upvotes. This feature is great for creative people and helps them to access funds they might need in order to find time or tools they need to make better content and achieve their goals.
There are a some downsides too, such as that Proof of brain can result in the value of Hive tokens dropping (due to the constant inflation involved) and also that those with the most money invested in the system have the most power to direct rewards - sometimes leading to feelings of injustice.
Target Audience: Anyone who likes to post creative content on the internet and who uses money!
2. Immutable Accounts & Posts
Hive is a system that is powered by blockchain technology that is decentralized and 'immutable'. This means that in almost all cases, comments that are added to the Hive blockchain will never be deleted by anyone other than the owner of the account that created them. There is no centralized corporation or other group that has more power than you do to delete accounts on Hive - so your account is owned by you and you are protected from being totally censored on Hive (unlike existing Web 2.0 social sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
This is very powerful for activists and people who have messages to share that are controversial or 'unpopular' in some way. If the Hive community dislikes your posts, you might see that you don't receive financial rewards, but your account will not be deleted and you will always be able to post. You will also be able to counteract attempts to downvote you if you have enough Hive Power in your account.
Target Audience: Anyone who loves free speech - particularly activists.
3. Trustless & Transparent Networking
Trustless refers to the way that people can use Hive to interact with each other and even though they don't know each other outside of Hive, each party will be forced to interact in a predictable way. This is because the system is run by electronic 'smart contracts' that are publicly readable and which let everyone know the rules of the system, which cannot be broken or bent.
Trustlessness means that we all know exactly how the system will respond in advance, so we can rely on certain rules of behavior when we communicate with other people. All of the transactions on the Hive blockchain are transparent and publicly visible too - so while people can still talk together privately, we can all see more about other people than we usually can on other networks - which can lead to more openness and ease of communication between people.
Target Audience: Anyone who wants to network with other people.
4. Community Building
Hive allows anyone to create a community that can benefit from all of Hive's features. This means that any number of people can combine their forces to achieve goals, raise funds, work together and to generally help each other out. In addition, people interested in niche topics can meet like minded people and make new friends.
Communities on Web 2.0 sites like Reddit and Facebook are limited in terms of how much they can work together because they have no easy way to share money or raise funds in a decentralized and 'trustless' way. Hive overcomes this and the newer 'layer 2' community features even allow advanced users to create their own version of the Hive token/system and to apply their own rules as they see fit. This is the first time such technology has been available in human history and we are only now starting to see the possibilities come to life.
Target Audience: Anyone who wants to use the internet to share information with like minded people.
5. A Framework for Creativity & Project Development
Hive also has a project proposal system that lets stakeholders vote on project proposals that anyone can create. Projects that receive enough votes will be awarded financial payouts to fund them, so if you have ideas that can help to grow Hive or that Hive stakeholders will like, then you can get a major boost this way to achieve your goals. This is an example of a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) and we will see more and more of these in society as time goes by and they are better understood.
There are also many software tools and community groups dedicated to helping software developers to create new projects based on Hive. This means that the very hard work of creating blockchain and social networking features is made much simpler and coders only need to build their own unique features on top of Hive in order to have a very powerful (decentralized) website or app.
From games to health apps to video sharing platforms and art galleries, Hive continues to grow it's ecosystem of exciting websites and projects.
Target Audience: Software developers, entrepreneurs, organizations and other individuals that want to push the boundaries of what internet technology can do.
6. Helping to Spread The Philosophy of Decentralization & Open Source
Hive is one of the few fully decentralized projects in the world. There is no 'big boss' or company that runs Hive. Most of the systems in our world are very centralized, which means that a small number of people hold most of the power and it is often impossible for anyone else to influence the important decisions.
While Hive does concentrate more power into the hands of the accounts which have the most Hive Power, it is always possible for people to acquire more Hive Power to match or equal their power just by buying the tokens or by other methods. Layer 2 projects enable users to duplicate Hive's features and to run their own token that the existing Hive token holders have little influence over. Plus, if all else fails - Hive is open source technology, which means that anyone can take the computer code that runs Hive and then launch their own competing version.
The cost of doing most of this is either free or very low. This means that massive amounts of cutting edge tech power are now available for free to everyone that wants to learn how to use it and has the passion/time to do so.
Decentralization helps us to solve many problems that cannot be solved any other way. However, blockchain technology is still one of the few areas that decentralization has taken off. This means that projects like Bitcoin and Hive are very important teachers for the rest of the world, who are likely to fall in love with decentralization after seeing the benefits in action. Once the world understand why decentralization is important, we will see it being applied in more ways, which should result in greater peace and prosperity for all.
Target Audience: Everyone who values freedom and peace.
Conclusions
As you can see, Hive is much more than just a blogging platform with a cryptocurrency attached to it! Hive offers people powerful ways to connect with each other, to build, to learn, to share and to help to support each other.
Our world has grown more connected through technology but is often less connected because we spend so much time online and not enough time relating to the people near to us. Hive helps to bridge this gap by bonding people economically in ways that motivate them to relate more closely than they would do with 'random strangers' on other online networks. The more tools we have to co-create together, the more we can feel part of a powerful group instead of a disconnected internet user, acting alone!
Hive also offers creative people an outlet to build exciting new products and services online. The limits are only those found in our own imaginations!

Thank you sir for this. Hive has many features of which digital Hive market is one of them. My happiness is I've come to know about Hive Blockchain. It is an awesome platform that gives an opportunity to explore more. Market hive tent to help in building the community.
One beauty Hive is the embodiment of project proposal system which enable people to invest, grow and become stakeholders and these stakeholders has voting power on project proposals that creative individual might unlike Facebook which in return, the received votes act as financial rewards to be paidouts after seven days as fund, I think this is one of factors that help to build hive even more faster and better because people do not reserve their embedded ideas that can help the world or help the Hive to grow. Moreover, teamwork is one the spirit in Hive. Hive grow as the results of spirited and like-minded people who worked tirelessly in creating communities for interesting post and this helps to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in contributing individual quarter to promote Hive. I came to understand no one can grow on Hive independently without others and this requires working together to achieve a single goal.
Hive is platform one can learn wide, build a blog platform, get enlighten on cryptocurrency and even expand it's portfolios.
The digital marketing systems
is another beautiful features of Hive which enable the online marketers to carry out their transactions. This makes hive more interesting and not only that it create convenient, credibility and confidence. This brings about the issue of decentralization which helps in solving many problems which might be solved in an alternative ways. Thank you @resonator for your support in promoting Hive Blockchain even your life touching post help me to know more about Hive and the worth on Hive.
If the Hive blockchain is searching for people that are ready to help push hive to the next level via active promotion, I @mcsamm would like to apply. I've always felt that promoting the Hive blockchain technology is one of the greatest methods to improve the value of the platform and the Hive cryptocurrency in general. One area in which I want to succeed is attracting young people and highly talented individuals. Our promotional efforts may also encourage individuals with creative ideas and abilities, who will feel much more empowered to create an atmosphere in which they and others around them can change. Let us work together to spread the word about the Hive blockchain. Thank you for providing this useful information.
They are really beneficial in promoting the Hive blockchain. Thank you again, @resonator, for your assistance to the Hive advertising team. I am thrilled to be a part of Hive's promotional efforts in Ghana, Africa.
Thanks, well you don't really need to apply to anyone - but you are welcome to join in as we share information and organize different promotional strategies. Yes, targeting young and talented people is essential as they can bring many things to Hive, including the passion to create new projects and also fresh perspectives about what the younger people need or want.
Thanks sir. I'm fully prepared and ready for all the various promotional strategies which are underway.
Hey @resonator! I just wanted to pop by and say a massive thank you for your generous upvote on my recent video that i put out called NWO Blues! (https://peakd.com/@jin-out/flkvynpw)
I am at a loss for words, and my thanks i can only give. Stay safe, and let's win this together!
I absolutely agree with you about the need to further market HIVE. It is an absolutely fantastic platform that I am so thankful to have come across. I think community building could well be the face of any marketing effort, or the ability to be part of the cryptosphere. In truth, it's really hard to make a living off HIVE for the majority of people coming to the chain now. I know for me that will never be the case, given I'm too far behind, but - people living in the developing world seem to be able to absolutely change their lives with it.
In short, I don't know - the world is a big place, and in each place within the place, a million ways to market it!
Have a good one, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Tim
In order to ensure the growth and development of Hive, we need to instill in our close friends the reliability and joy of this community. The fact that Hive is not in a centralized structure and that the control occurs by itself also shows how powerful a platform it is. I think that by adding our friends working in different sectors to this platform for development, we can increase each other with their articles and comments from their perspectives.
I think, you missed the HBD interest - for some reason, I am addicted to the thought that, it could bring many investors very quickly and that would make HIVE more scarce, moving the price high.
First of all, thank you for this nice article.
Unfortunately, it appeared in front of me at a very late hour and I read it with sleepy eyes.
You asked and answered very good questions.
I've been here for a relatively long time.
The thing that appealed to me in Hivee, of course, was making money in the beginning. The notifications were exciting. I was making money by blogging on other platforms like hive. but hive is really very different.
I've been here for less than 4 months. I loved it a lot. I was using this platform many years ago, but I did not fully understand the system and left it. Now I think I have a better understanding of the platform and how we should produce content. I'm back with a new account.
I love being here. I have big goals. When I look back years later, I aim to have a well-established account.
Let's see what time will show me.
As someone who loves to write, I am sure that I will contribute to this platform. We writers, though not as much as programmers, contribute to hive and are a part of it.
I think I will using Hive in some way for a currency at an offline unintentional community type project! Not many places are using crypto in real life use cases yet!
I always see hive as a one big family where different people all over the world connect which each other to become one in the blockchain by assisting each other to grow. No doubt there are so many opportunities hive have created for so many individuals around the world where they can actually showcase their skills and talents in the blockchain. The main fact about this is that their are so many communities in the blockchain that can help showcase that talent when you share or publish them in the platform which will be definitely appreciated by many in the blockchain then also get reward for it.
I appreciate the hive blockchain for all the opportunities rendered to assist all in other to grow and at the same time promote the blockchain to progress in a positive state, it's really quite impressive and a work well-done. The hive blockchain is definitely a place to be and with that progress more people are trooping in daily to be part of this awesome blockchain with the positive impact it has to offer and to help promote every users to grow which they can all testify the impact in one way or the other.
If everyone who is excited to help Hive to grow manages to add even a small part of their time to promoting Hive, we will see big growth in no time!
For me hive blockchain is still a project in progress for the future. It's a wide platform where different kinds of earnings are being practiced and it serves as an advantage to people on the hive platform. I think one of the interesting facts about hive Blockchain is that, it's not owned or controlled by a group, an individual or a financial institution.
Advantages of hive blockchain
It's a platform where you can build up your portfolios and blogging platforms.
Learning more about cryptocurrency and it benefits
It can serves as a digital marketing systems for online marketers.
I'd like to add to this that, the fact that it's decentralized, i believe that's the most amazing thing about Hive Blockchain platform. Another interesting thing about it is about the transparency and the communities, hive blockchain is not point down to just blogging and earning, it has all other things that can earn you lots of cool earnings. The transparency part is unique. It's built and develop in a way that 3rd party can see your account transactions and tracks but it can't be manipulated or tampered with. Hive Blockchain is a great platform. Hive to the world
Yes, Hive is a 'work in progress' and will keep changing as the years pass. This is also an important part of Hive that we didn't highlight in the post - Hive will always keep changing in a way that is more free than the big social networks can achieve.
I believe you covered everything and more. The hive Blockchain is one of a kind. It's utility is in several no of ways. When I say we are underrated, we truly are seeing the unique benefits all merged in single platform. I doubt any Blockchain tick all those boxes. Hive has helped me in several lot of ways, people out there really deserve to know what they are missing.
I do my part in introducing people to hive whenever I get the opportunity to. The best place to build anything right now is here due to the strong community. In time I believe we will get the attention deserve. Till then, I keep staking those hive and interacting on here.
Great, thanks for sharing!

Hive needs to pushed more, the enormous benefits of hive is unlimited, the promotion of hive would be one of the greatest advantages because there are alot of people who would love to be part of this great blockchain
I listed from reason why i love the blockchain
Great post and nice prompt to discover more amazing features of Hive. There are so many layers and different ways to use hive that is still never ceases to amaze me.. The potential is almost limitless really. Our imagination and ability to create new ideas is limitless..
For example, just last week i discovered and started using listnerds. THis is a whole other world in itself.. seemingly hidden and yet interfaced with Hive-engine, tokens, and the hive platform itself. Not only does it seem to generate a whole other layer of abundance, but it also seems to bring in a great and welcomed number of new people to my blogs and in particular my comments!
So if i had to add one more thing that is Hive, i would say.. it's a kind of family.. we have this bond that unites us just because we are here..
i can't even imagine what will be going on here in 5 more years! :) even now i can barely keep up!
Hello @resonator, to answer your question, please checkout the presentation I have made a few days ago.
https://hive.blog/hive-167922/@finguru/5-reasons-why-i-love-hive-presentation
Hive is a great place for developers, creators, builders, and investors which almost covers everyone. I also shared it on Twitter for everyone to see and know about how awesome and mind-blowing this place is.
I would add that we also have freedom and the ability to invest in ideas and ourselves.
The blockchain has very real chance at helping human beings achieve financial freedom as well as control of their own content.
Absolutely phenomenal post thank you very much!
Dear @resonator, the thoughts you shared in this post are quite valid. Understanding these value propositions are what will help onboard a user. Why many find it hard to join Hive is the failure to understand that Hive suits the diversity needs of people and has different solutions for different people.
I've personally helped to onboard users on the following selling points:
A good proportion of these users have been onboarded on the standpoint of Proof of Brain. With respect to my country Nigeria with high unemployment rate, my take has always been that anyone who can read/write can actually maximize dapps on Hive to make a living. Many have settled here and have been creating contents here on a full-term basis.
I think there is pone aspect you missed out as one of the selling points for Hive - The Investors' Guild.
Everyone that is interested in using his money to make more money can do so mon Hive. With the several earning options we have (curation rewards, staking rewards, Liquidity rewards for emerging DeFi pools, gaming rewards, NFT markets and more), anyone looking for a place to invest his money profitably can do so on the Hive blockchain.
The rewards earned on this comment will go directly to the person sharing the post on Twitter as long as they are registered with @poshtoken. Sign up at https://hiveposh.com.
The only down point I see is the curator guilds and the potential power abuse they could do with other people voting power. But loved the post :D
I'm not sure who's behind this account, but it's great to see a proactive human at the wheel with good intentions responding to comments and supporting content creators in a big way. Thanks as well for getting behind my posts to boost morale in my often overlooked niche.
Hey, @Resonator. First off I'd like to thank you for this post, and the opportunity to discuss Hive and curation.
Also, many thanks for your manual curation efforts, including some recent support for my content. It has taken me 5 years (full time) of totally independent decentralized effort, not to mention investment and risk, in order to build my reputation and audience to the current point. I am an unbanked activist, husband, and father of 2 babies living in BC Canada. My dream has been to generate some crypto income by doing what I already love, creating original high quality content on topics like freedom, privacy, cannabis as medicine, activism, free markets, the Covid scam, monetary theory, etc. It tends to be stuff that gets censored by the mainstream, and attacked by statists. I am finally getting close to achieving a stable income of about 30 HIVE per post, each of which takes me about a day to research, photograph, write, etc. At current prices that's about $30 a day, which would be enough to cover some of my family's monthly costs. I'm approaching my first power down and test payout. Thanks to the support of excellent manual curators of independent content, some of my posts reached payouts around 40 HIVE recently.
Unfortunately, this seems to have attracted the disdain of blockchain bullies who are hitting me with large ($3 to $30+) downvotes. These accounts have higher rep than I do, so they're not only just removing my payouts, they're knocking my rep score down. Like I wrote in the linked post, I don't care about rep from an ego standpoint whatsoever. But it does have functional impacts on how this blockchain works. For example, posts and comments by low rep accounts are automatically pushed to the bottom of each feed or screen. If low enough, they are annotated with a warning, put behind a click-wall, and grayed out. As you write above, accounts and posts (usually) don't get outright deleted, but censorship is still absolutely possible here, and happening all the time. Hundreds of high quality content-creators like myself have been lost in recent months, thanks to these downvoting whale bullies. The agenda is to hide/downplay certain content, like Freedom Convoy. I notice they even went after the @freedomconvoy account's posts - and comments! Knocked it down in rep from 56 to 53. A few more days of that, and @freedomconvoy will be effectively gone.
This is not acceptable in my opinion, but what can I do? Whenever I confront people like this about their actions, they downvote me in retaliation, losing me even more money and visibility. If they respond at all, they say "how it works is you buy a bunch of HIVE and then you can downvote me back". So my only recourse is to play their game? Not only would I never do that, but I don't have $2 million to blow on HIVE. I'm living on next to nothing and have no savings except my HIVE balance I've worked tirelessly to accumulate. They are literally 1000 times larger than me. It takes them almost no effort or resources to completely remove all my payouts and all but scrub me from sight. I haven't broken any platform rules, I'm not plagiarizing, I'm not spamming, I'm not scamming. My content is what HIVE is made for. I'm finally barely pulling in 40 bucks for a day's work, and now I'm being knocked back to nothing for it? This is why HIVE can't grow, and why it is actually bleeding out good content-creators. I don't do this only for the money, but I've worked 5 years to get here, and I've yet to see my first cent for it. Many of these whales have been pulling in huge circle-jerk profits since this chain began, and they make hundreds on each of their nonsense spam posts, clogging up Trending with self-promotion and garbage. And many of them are going around UN-curating, undoing the good work that you and other quality curators are spending your time and resources on. Punishing complete strangers they see as competition - up and comers like myself. I recently broke into the top 1000 for rep (so less than 1000 people can negatively effect my score aka make efforts to censor me). I clawed my way up to #950 last week, before being sent tumbling back down by those high-rep whale downvotes. It would take them a while, but they could reduce me to nothing, and in the process, prevent me from accumulating any more HIVE and competing with them.
I love so many things about HIVE and I'm thankful for many things I've learned here. I also realize it is not what it could be, and we are being held back at a crucial time.
I think my comment has touched on most of the 6 categories you mentioned in your post. I hope you see this as constructive discussion. Maybe we can come up with solutions, or at least just be more actively conscious of the problem. Thank you!
Hey Drutter, we agree that you are right about the issues of balance on Hive . Hive reflects the economic situation in the rest of society in some ways, but still manages to show the world how decentralization can improve the lives of many people and help to give them a feeling of empowerment and liberty. The economics of the world were heavily biased/skewed in the favor of a small minority of people a very long time before Hive and even before the internet and computers existed. Hive isn't immune to these problems.
One way to tackle this situation is to onboard many new people who agree with your vision, so that instead of you personally needing to have millions of dollars worth of Hive - your fellow community members can collaborate to achieve a similar outcome. We often forget just how many people there are on Earth and once we come together we are hard to stop! Part of @resonator's mission is to help groups to achieve their goals by forming ever larger communities and empowering them with economic tools to create real change in their lives.
Let's all work together to build the tools that are most effective at helping us to build mutually beneficial communities.
Thanks for your support and suggestions :)
I have invited my followers from various platforms to join me here on Hive (and Steem) for 5 years. Only a few have done so, and none of them enjoyed the experience, quickly abandoning their accounts. Sadly, not even people in alternative circles such as precious metals investing, cannabis, libertarianism, and freedom are quick to embrace this blockchain. There are barriers many people just don't see a need to overcome. Of course, I will continue to hold out hope that it can change. That said, many of my supporters are small independent content-creators like me, with little or no capital other than their skills and efforts. Not to mention activists. Most of us have already given everything we can toward our causes, and have nothing to invest in Hive other than our footage, firsthand accounts, photography, strategies, inside info, documentaries, etc. Asking us to come up with money to fight investor whales with millions of HIVE is not realistic. We've already put all we have into HIVE. I invested 0.2 BTC (my life savings) at $8 in 2017 and after 5 years of fulltime work I'm still underwater. I'm already all in, at 18000 HIVE. I don't know anyone else who wants to buy HIVE. It sounds great on paper but it's not going to save my account. I just got another huge downvote, completely destroying a post I was proud of.
Looks like the strategy is to downvote my posts to $0 just before they hit 6 days. That prevents anyone from seeing or responding to it, cuts me off from every getting another HIVE, and drops my reputation down closer to being grayed out and hidden. I've seen it happen to dozens of great channels here, so I'm sure it has actually happened to thousands. It's one of the main reasons HIVE can't succeed - everybody knows only a small insider group can be paid for their content, and the rest are downvoted to $0 and driven away.
Your comment (and your post) touched on a great point about forming groups within a decentralized world. You're very right that this is a major challenge to be overcome, and I thank you for putting resources and effort toward that end. I've often noted that networking and organization within a decentralized platform/community is important, but difficult. One problem is many within the decentralized world don't recognize the need for it. Another is the difficulty in actually making it happen, since decentralized individuals are disorganized by nature, and little methods currently exist for networking. I've also seen this before when doing grassroots activism. Each activist is essentially a free agent, decentralized from the government and each other, with no leader. This is both a strength and a weakness, and I see the same thing here in the crypto world going forward. Identifying and leveraging those strengths could be a worthwhile goal.
Thank you for the discussion. I'm following your channel. Do you have any particular tags you like or recommend?
