More than 20 tractors entered Delhi's Red Fort after noon local time, NDTV reported. The tractor of the national flag on the Red Fort were seen entering the slogans of the protesters, they said.
Earlier in the morning, thousands of agitating farmers entered the capital, ignoring police obstructions ahead of schedule at several entrances to the city. They also deviated from the prescribed route by which the farmers were allowed to march. Authorities allowed the 'Krishna Parade' from 12 noon to 5 pm local time in Delhi. But long before that the farmers started the procession in the capital. Police fired tear gas and batons to stop them, not without. Some policemen were also injured in the clash.
Farmers were allowed to protest peacefully on the condition that tractors would march after the end of the annual 'Rajpath' parade in central Delhi on India's 72nd Republic Day.
But before the parade began, thousands of protesters gathered at the Delhi border by 8am. In the meanwhile, several thousand police entered the capital on foot, ignoring the obstacles. Instead of following the pre-determined road, they marched along different roads towards the city center. The situation is heated with this, said Anandabazar newspaper. The protesters clashed with police in Noida Junction, ITO Junction and SBT areas of Delhi.
Farmers reportedly seized a police bus at the ITO intersection.
After the farmers' procession reached the Red Fort, they flew the flag of the movement there. The agitating farmers here are chanting slogans like 'Occupy Delhi', Anandabazar said.
Farmers protesting the presence of several media reports that the police is helpless. Delhi Metro services have been partially shut down to deal with the situation.
