PIZZA and Politics...

Pizza for dinner so that was nice. We haven't had this in a while, which is kinda uncool because family dinners are such a "fun" thing to do for some chit-chat and just being around each other. This isn't even the best pizza in town and yet we really enjoyed. Maybe it's the people we are with that really makes this a memorable meal.

Dinner Talk

Hello Hiveans. I hope that you are all good and having a blast in your life. There are so many things happening these days that makes it easy to get angry and be a grinch, especially because the roads are starting to show signs of heavier traffic. The Christmas season is the time to be jolly and all, but here in the Philippines, there is also the other side of it: crass commercialism, more beggars out in the streets, and politicians doing their thing. It will be nice to start seeing some Christmas lanterns and lights in houses along the roads while driving to go home, especially for the kids.

On a related note, politics are very much a part of life for Filipinos these days. Given that elections are just around the corner and politicos are showing up at the senate/house hearings to show the world how good they are at doing their jobs. It's funny to see some trying their best to do a good job at cross examination and interpolating resource persons while some try to defend resource persons accused of crimes. They looked like the crooked politicians typically portrayed in television and in the movies. They looked the part. LOL.

And it makes sense here, actors often transition to being politicians using their fame to get elected; some might even be good at doing their jobs while others looked lost. The senate and house's job is to create laws beneficial to the country so it makes sense that lawyers, educators and people representing specific groups be elected, but that doesn't guarantee that they will do their jobs well either. We know all too well that lawyers don't necessarily equate to good lawmakers. People are people and wherever one is, it will show what kind of values one has in one's words and actions. Because of these televised investigations, people will have a good sense of how elected officials do their job.

On the same topic of politics, my feeds are now full of videos and news about the US Presidential debates, which happened yesterday. I did not watch it in full, but just the shorter clips snippets that helped me get a sense of how each candidate presented their platform of government and their characters as people. I feel like VP Harris won this because she was able to articulate what she will do once elected. On the other hand, I don't get the "migrants are eating your pets" statement from the former president. Maybe it's cultural, maybe it's really happening, it got me confused.

I am now looking forward to the upcoming midterm elections here in my country next year. All congressional positions and half of the senatorial seats will be up for grabs, plus the local elective offices so I'm sure that there will be money that will be going into circulation, especially because there are so many positions to be elected.

So, that's it for now. I will keep this blog post short. Thanks for dropping by and spending time here. Hope you are having a wonderful day.

Love and peace.
