Critical thoughts about Hive after using it for a week; thinking about mainstream adoption

in #hive4 years ago (edited)

As I was exploring more about Hive in the first few weeks of my journey, I've learnt a lot, I've observed a lot, and I think I know a lot more about Hive now than I did in the last week.
I'll always be a fan of Hive. But, here are a few critical points which I believe, from a 'lay mans perspective' will add more value to hive.

Now I dont know who is going to appreciate this, and also I dot want to speak too negatively, but consider all negative points as areas of improvements.

p.s. -> I'm still new here, and you can call me a noob as I still dont understand how Hive works, I have very basic knowledge how the hive economics work, how the new tokens get generated, and all. Its been a few days, and I tried my best to understand them.

First things first: Why I liked the platform:

  1. This is a platform which will help you earn money by posting content.
  2. Unique way of "Upvoting" content, which will give both Authors and the Curators some reward from the pool of newly mined blocks, mining new coins. (Win win situation for both content creators and content curators.)
  3. Community is very vibrant and robust.
  4. Awesome developments are going on (think DApps)
  5. Content consumers dont actually have to sign up" to view content.
  6. Hive community is more focused on "Decentralisation", which is the main reason they stepped out after Justin Sun fuckery over steem.

Now here are some of the reasons why its lacking mainstream adoption:

  1. Top 20 HODLers have too much of Hive power.
  2. A single entity has proven that it is entirely possible to take over the network if they come under the control of too much hive power (read and search about the justin sun fuckery)
  3. There are many instances of "whales"misusing their power to always upvote their content (which is fine to some extent) and they also sell votes
  4. SEO needs to be a bit more optimised
  5. Sometimes, there are many "not so worth it" content being voted and curated by whales so that they get their curation benefits (which may, discourage genuine content creators)
  6. The network incentivizes big HODlers, so smaller people may get discouraged.

So finally, my take on Hive:

Will it gain mainstream adoption?
Ans: Yes, why not? If the critical points are addressed!

Will I be positive on Hive?
Ans: I'm already positive, even if it doesnt matter.

Is it a good investment?
Ans: I'm not giving financial advice here.

Will good content be upvoted?
Ans: There are many good content getting upvoted, and some people having big power are already taking good initiatives.

Why should I still choose Hive?
Ans: You get good incentives for good content, you get rewarded if you curate content (dont misuse it, curate only good and original content), you wont be censored (unless of course there is a hostile takeover of the network, which I believe isnt happening again), and most importantly, this community is good, vibrant, energetic, and will motivate you to push good content.
