Okay, celebration's over. Back to business

in #hive5 years ago

The dapps and witnesses have been hard at work getting HIVE up and running. I want them to be able to take a break as soon as possible, they have well earned it!

Take a moment to relax. Breathe it in. Get all the "First Hive Post!" and "Fuck Sun" out of our system. Rest your full 8 hours...

... because the real work is yet to come

1 - Do your due diligence on who you're voting for!

Steemit and the exchanges were an unusually existential threat to the chain. That does not mean that everything is hunky-dory in the governance as soon as they're gone. I saw a community with lots of mixed feelings put their concerns aside to fight a common enemy, but those concerns did not go away. They need to be addressed.

Curbing abuse will still be important. You can't really avoid whales and their friends having an advantage, so you have to stay on top of it. Keep an eye on the balance of power. Talk to your witness candidates: know what they're doing and where their support comes from. Keep talking to each other about what we value and how to make good things happen.

2 - Spiff up the proposal system

Steemit is not here to manage the dev fund, however inexpertly. It's up to HDF-DAO and tipping now.

I wanna get some clarity: is the DAO set up and ready to go with HIVE? What about proposals specific to dApps/developers that are staying on STEEM? It looks like proceeds still point at steem.dao - is this mismatch more than name-deep? Did anyone ever have control of the steem.dao keys?

If the dao is going to function as a primary mechanism for organizing improvements to the chain, hive need a better interface for proposals than PeakD's (no offense). There is no search to check for related/alternate proposals, there is no dashboard on who is proposing it, the layout for costs and time frames is awfully unintuitive. I vaguely recall that steemproposal.com's interface was slightly more featurefull than steempeak's, but it's down.

An improved interface needs to go up quickly if anyone is to believe the airdrop appeals won't get lost in the very bottom of the pile.

I swear I had more thoughts, but I'm tired now. I need to go to bed already.
