Could not agree more with you. And having already tried the EOS side too, I completely understand the cause. One of the mistakes about these blockchains is to base the costs of the infrastructure on the supposed price increase of the token. And that does not always run that way. So, for me, the costs of supporting the network should scale with its usage (hence the RC being monetizable is a very important step of this blockchain).
In regards to more witnesses, that is (should be) independent of the network infrastructure. At least towards the voting part of who produces blocks. And once the RC delegation is here, things will change. To be honest, any business can support the network even if they don't produce blocks. In my view, they are separate things. Although who is a witness has the additional burden to also (if possible) support the network with API nodes, etc (although is not mandatory, usually people will only vote if you do have because of the size/decentralization of the current network).
Example: Splinterlands need to run big API nodes for their game backend to be quickly reacting to the blockchain changes and because they also need to have control in case other members of the network have network problems. Hence this makes a business like theirs effectively support the network (being a witness or not). Aka anyone can point at their Hive API for blockchain broadcasting.
For now, and like you said, it's very important to help one another. Who is here for already some years have that responsibility if one would like to see the full potential of this community. Everyone can help, their way, with what they know most about. And that's the beauty of this community, diversity!
Enjoy! ;)
Great example with Splinterlands. They indeed have to run a badass cluster of witness nodes to ensure that if anything, their servers are running in tip top shape. They help us a lot!
I don't know a whole lot about the RC delegation stuff yet and how they could monetize that but I'm sure I'll get up to speed in the near future. It sounds intriguing! I'm glad that I'm powering up lots of hive lately, going to help get me more RC power and hive power to swing around!
I think the diversity on here is remarkable for sure! Thereโs people from all walks of life and can help people in a litany of ways. Iโm helping my guild mates in Splinterlands learn the game but at the same time also learn how to post, interact and do things here on hive. I want them in my guild but since they are on the chain already, I think it would be great to get them hooked on the communities and all that as well!
Yes, please!
