Honeycomb - DHF Proposal 2025 - #322

HIVE Honeycomb by DLUX

Introduction

dlux: Decentralized Limitless User eXperiences

HIVE L2

The dlux.io team is back with a proposal for ongoing development of HIVE's original Layer 2 protocol: Honeycomb

Honeycomb uses concensus nodes to maintain full decentralization, and has been first to market with several HIVE Layer 2 Features, including:

  • Community Tokens running on lightweight nodes anyone can operate
  • Decentralized Exchange for trading community tokens with no central authority
  • Generative Art NFTs with minting, trading, auctioning, and selling!

Roadmap (2024-2025)

Growing with Hive

Hive will be transitioning to HF28, intended to include "lite accounts" that run on Hive's new smart contract system. We will support lite account functionality within Honeycomb, ensuring new users have acces to low friction digital IDs that facilitate easy onboarding.

@disregardfiat currently runs a Hive Witness (#41) with full HAF API to support Honeycomb API calls, and a full backup API to support continuous operation. He maintains the node, keeping it up to date with the latest patches and releases, while responding to any unforseen crashes as quickly as possible. Additionally, he has made contributions to the HAF API codebase.

SPK Network

SPK Network presents a brand new approach to cloud storage

The SPK Network fork of Honeycomb offers decentralized and incentivized network infrastructure that utilizes BROCA resource credits to secure file storage, while rewarding service providers with SPK Governance.

It's a radical reimagining of cloud storage, and marks the start of new pricing modalities for infrastructure markets.

Use SPK Power to create storage contracts, or choose a sponsored upload channel

SPK Network Contract System

Files can be encrypted, shared, tagged, and licensed, with full owner control

File Metadata and Contract Sharing Control

SPK Network is the flagship showcase of Honeycomb's capabilities

This fork of the software has povided an opportunity to develop a wholly different governance structure that includes:

  • Token and dPos voting
  • Hard resource based token issuance via algorithmic APR (storage)
  • Managemment of licenses and ownership transferral
  • Censorship resistance and file preservation with the help of the community
  • Encouraged deletion of files that shouldn't be collectively stored

SPK Network Testnet
SPK Network is fully in testnet. An all-in community day is scheduled for September 24th, 2024, to welcome Hivians. The SPK Network is here in a real and meaningful way. Work done to bring this complex multi-party system online has been arduous, but we feel that the tokenomics and proving systems are up to task and ready to be stress-tested.

We will continue our development and testing of the SPK Network Honeycomb fork. Features developed in this fork will be rolled into the Honeycomb unified codebase once stable.

Open Source UI

The utility and functionality of Honeycomb continue to evolve, and we are dedicated to pioneering interfaces that prioritize the user experience front-and-center. As we continue to improve and optimize based on industry best practices, we are committed to releasing our software for others to remix in their own way.

All interfaces we build are open source using modern Bootstrap 5, Vue 3 and WebXR. To support SPK Testnet features, several new User Interface components are being built and tested that provide modularity and scalability for use on other front ends.

SPK Wallet Component

  • SPK: Send, Power Up, Power Down
  • SPK Power: Vote, Elect Validators
  • LARYNX: Send, Power Up, Power Down
  • LARYNX Power: Delegate
  • BROCA: Create Contract

Create a contract inside the modular wallet component

SPK Cloud

  • Files view with list and thumbnail display options
  • Contracts view with extension, tags, labels, license, encryption, sharing

Personal decentralized IPFS cloud file list

Mobile Overhaul
The entire dlux.io website has been rebuilt from the ground up within a mobile-first framework, and work is ongoing to bring feature parity across all platforms, including mobile, desktop, and headset.

Mobile DEX functions match desktop features

Invite Onboarding

DLUX Honeycomb QR Onboarding is currently in development. It supports claiming account creation tokens (ACTs) and using them to create accounts for new users. Soon new users will be able to scan a Hivian's QR code to enter an onboarding portal funded from the originating account ACTs or liquid HIVE/HBD balance.

Claim ACTs and fund new user accounts through QR invite

Expanding Documentation

We moved our documentation to a new mobile friendly front-end with sophisticated search indexing, driven by simple markdown files any Github user can contribute to. We will continue documenting functionality added to Honeycomb, including how other communities can take advantage of the interfaces we have built.

Community contribution now possible through Github

Automated Market-Maker

We will continue to mimic the @hbdstabilizer function and autonomously sell our DAO HBD for Hive. Additionally, we have been testing a more advanced system with deeper functionality. It is still under development, and we will have more to share about this soon.

Track Record

Communities

Launch a new token ecosystem or validator node

The user response has been fantastic, with Honeycomb now powering three distinctly different ecosystems:

  1. The original DLUX token (dlux.io) demonstrates the capabilities of Layer 2 on HIVE, including community DEX, NFT market, and using tokens within games and experiences.
    • Independent Validator Nodes: 8
    • Estimated Market Cap: $477,568.04
  2. The SPK Network token (spk.network) includes the LARYNX miner token, SPK governance token, and BROCA resource token for storing files and other multi-media infrastructure use cases.
    • Independent Validator Nodes: 11
    • Estimated Market Cap: $228,364.11
  3. The DUAT game token (ragnaroknft.quest) paves the way for the Ragnarok NFT game set to utilize Honeycomb NFTs.
    • Independent Validator Nodes: 7
    • Estimated Market Cap: $128,677.60

Progress

Work has been done over the last year to achieve the following milestones:

Node Network Backend

  • Community tokens, smart contracts, multi-party transactions
  • Complex uploading to IPFS, more efficient roll-ups
  • 100% open-source

Independent nodes in consensus broadcasting API

Front-end User Interfaces

  • Wallet, Exchange, NFT Sets, Cloud Storage
  • Updated to respond dynamically to new tokens
  • 100% open-source, 100% rendered client-side

Quickly execute a market order for Honeycomb tokens

State Channel updates allow for off-chain messaging

  • Contracts can be settled after all parties reach agreement (SPK Network)
  • Complex interactions such as gaming can be done off-chain (Ragnarok)

Service providers can offer storage for beneficiary rewards

Honeycomb updates from token configuration files stored in IPFS

  • Community level changes no longer require forking the software
  • Automated security and updating
  • Front end UX adjusts dynamically to new token features

Automatically generate the seed required for a new Honeycomb chain

Improved documentation with robust indexing and search

  • A new front end compatible with industry standard markdown has been implemented
  • DLUX, SPK, and Honeycomb are all unified in one documentation repo
  • Easy user updating to documentation via git (github) pull requests

New unified documentation front end

DLUX Posts are native Progressive Web Apps

  • Experiences published through dlux can be installed on device as PWAs
  • Native app performance with censorship resistance

DLUX Hub with AR & VR Experiences

Unifying the Honeycomb codebase

  • DLUX and DUAT were combined into one code base. No fork is required to run a new token ecosystem.

Almost all previous funding passed through our HBD Stabilizer

  • Our custom program helps improve liquidity of HBD on the internal market
  • It's stability has been tested over last year with very little downtime
  • We plan to open-source the program (BYOAlgorithm) once it is fully validated

Accounting

  • 350 HBD per day for 1 year
  • October 1st, 2024 - September 30th, 2025
  • 127,750 HBD if fully funded

Costs

Our infrastructure costs are generally negligible and we strive to keep them as low as possible through decentralization. We are proposing a rate for our time to innovate and share solutions as needed by the community.

I voted for proposal 322. I think you are building good infrastructure that will be helpful to the hive community and will bring more devs here to build more things.

I like the tech, and I’d like to see more adoption. Any idea how many active users on a monthly basis? Aside from node operators.

We're really hoping to get a good user base around SPK Network. DLUX is cool and all, but I wouldn't want to get general funding for our front-end alone. A place to store data, a place to present some of that data as D-Apps/PWAs so anybody can interact with new token ecosystems. That's storage, UI, consensus and logic all from under the hive umbrella is where we are now/soon. The real ROI from our project is going to come from capturing users and development that would otherwise go to Solana and ETH... I hope we aren't arranging our deck chairs on a sinking ship, this work is better paid elsewhere after all.

That said, parsing today's logs show 122 unique requests. I try relatively hard to not use trackers or proxy analytics... so grain of salt if you want to extrapolate to a month.

You two are building some of the most important technologies for HIVE. I can't even believe you only received 5% of the vote needed to go above the Return Proposal. If HIVE wants to get back into Top 100 cryptocurrency, we need to support developers like you and onboard as many users as possible and make it easy to invest in our Tokens. Buying HIVE is not that difficult at the moment. There are DAPPs that create custodial accounts. The missing pieces are infrastructure + marking.

Thank you for all the amazing work you have been doing over the years!

To be fair, everybody is at HiveFest and we aren't expecting a lot of votes until the dust settles from that. Our current proposal is funded, I haven't heard enough criticism to expect this one to fail.

Well, I am not that geeky enough to understand this, but I remember a user who was asking about having SPK in his wallet as shown on Ecency app, and there was no visible explanation, I don't have though. And I am reading this and still can't get the SPK & LARYNX stuff after reading.
But I understand you're developing this thing for the better of Hive and it's ecosystem.
So, thanks a lot.

Have you noticed that SPK & LARYNX wallet can be seen on Ecency and not Peakd, even it's not shown on Hive engine?

Any reason for this.?

Well, SPK runs on Honeycomb and not HiveEngine.
Ecency was nice enough to include SPK features into their wallet, and when the network expands past the token drop and other non-storage features it may be incorporated into other places as well, at least that's what we hope.

I am voting for this though I am just seeing it for the first time. I like what I see.

I just read everything and voted and the work you are doing is excellent. Thank you very much friends for continuing to develop new projects and continue the work of improving the Hive network. Thank you for your hard work. and I liked the part about smart contracts to be able to sell nfts

I am voting for this though I am just seeing it for the first time. I like what I see.

What is the estimated ROI on that investment from Hive, and how is it estimated? We seriously need to start asking and clarifying those questions as a DAO
