Why Hive is different

Social media has a tendency to bring people of like-minds together. This can be a tool for good, but in many cases it can also lead to online fights between different groups, creating polarization and spilling out into the real world. Whether it's family members not speaking to each other because of online disagreements, or cancel culture or doxing, social media has a tendency to bring out the worst in people.

But Hive is different; Hive is decentralized. With Hive, every post is like a window into someone else's reality.

Unlike other social media platforms where people have a shared reality that is curated behind the scenes by AI, on Hive there is great value in a unique perspective. Every day my feed is full of windows into the reality of other people around the globe, giving me a perspective on life that I can't get from mainstream media or from facebook or twitter.

Rather than be an echo chamber of consolidated opinions, Hive is a place where your unique perspective is welcomed. The more unique, the better. Others may reblog your work, not to draw attention to themselves like people do on facebook and other platforms, but instead they share your work for your benefit.

With hive there is a deeper understanding between all of us that doesn't require an explanation. None of us are trying to control the platform, or shout louder than the next person. We're simply sharing a glimpse into our own reality for others to see, without worrying about being banned, ganged up on, or ridiculed.

This extends out to Dapps running on the Hive blockchain. Digital assets purchased have real world value, and content is curated by the community, not an algorithm. While not always glamorous, everything you get on Hive has evolved organically. No central power, no matter how large can dictate how things are going to be. Justin Sun tried and embarrassingly failed.

Hive is a community, but we are definitely not a cult. We are often disorganized, disagreeable, opinionated and easily provoked, but it isn't what defines this community. Those who wish to control or steer Hive in a direction that suits them often find themselves getting stung, no matter how much hive power they hold. Diversity is our strength, and it's what gives Hive tremendous value.
