The Hive faucet won't last forever

in #hive3 months ago (edited)

Remember Bitcoin faucets?

Yeah, this image is from 2010 when nobody but a handfull of people knew about Bitcoin.

All you had to do is complete the Capcha and you'd get 5 BTC. No strings attached.

Whoever made it just wanted people to have Bitcoin, learn about Bitcoin and spread the word.

Those days are long gone, of course, but new blockchain technology is being built since then. Sure there are a bunch of useless projects, blockchains, NFTs, DeFi websites and meme tokens, but there are also tools out there that are actually useful. One such tool is the Hive blockchain which is currently in a sort o faucet mode. All you need to do is write some lines and put out your hands to receive free internet money you can go spend on chocolate.

Right?

Well, in the words of comic, Demitri Martin..

Sort of.

Quick side story: Demitri Martin says in his shows that saying "sort of" doesn't really mean anything, but if you say it after certain sentences, it changes everything. For example

You'll live. Sort of

or

It's a boy! sort of.

Haha end side story.

Yes. Hive is currently in distribution mode, which means when someone creates an account and makes a post for the first time, the community comes together to give them a nice California hello, which in case you didn't know, is also the name of a #beer made by Dunloe Brewing Company

No, Hiveans don't give newcomers the finger, we give them a nice warm welcome with a bunch of comments and some generous upvotes to show them what this place is all about, so maybe they'll keep coming back and maybe bring others with them. Who wouldn't want to come back to a place that rewards you for providing value to the community? Value-for-value.

Of course, many people don't get past surface level and think hey... if I just made $50 for writing an introduction post, and it took me 1 hour to write it, I can write 8 of these per day, 6 days a week, that's $10,000 a month! I'll be rich!!

Not so fast, Scooter.

Dudn't work like that.

In order for it to work, you need two things:

#1 Skin in the game

You need to have some skin in the game. This means that you have to have something to lose. This may be in the form of investing money upfront, or investing time. But you have to be invested in this platform.

I think the current price of HIVE is a bargain, so I decided to buy some as well as invest time in it.

By holding staked Hive in my wallet I'm accomplishing a couple of things. First, I'm earning about 3.08% APR on my existing tokens, but trust me, it adds up. The power of compounding is a magical thing. Second, I'm building my reputation. Accounts that hold Hive and use it to vote for valuable content, witnesses and participate in governance are seen by the community as good hive citizens. Just like you would a neighbor that helps keep the community clean and safe. Hiveans with stake build credibility and trust with fellow Citizens.

#2 Bring value

The great Jim Rohn said this

We get paid for bringing value to the marketplace

ff you make a goal of writing 8 posts a day, are you really putting effort and adding value to your readers? Do you really think Hive citizens are going to vote for your watered down shitpost to get its share of the reward pool, let alone reach into their pockets and give you a tip? The answer is no. People will upvote and tip you for your creations when you add value. Share your knowledge on things you're good at. If you're a designer, make some amazing graphics for free, show people what you're capable of. Make a name for yourself and then start selling your designs to other Hive citizens. Do some freelance work... Make tutorials on how to use the tools on HIVE. There are tons of options, but you've got to bring value to get value in return. It's as simple as that.

The Hive faucet is wide open right now, but it won't be forever. There will come a day where the only way of getting Hive tokens will be to exchange them with someone for something else.

Hey man, I'll create a website for your company for 2000 HIVE.

By then, they could very well be worth several United States Dollars a piece.

$1? $2? $4.2096? $20?

Nobody knows, but with all the development, integration with other blockchains, listings and whatnot, I'm willing to bet Hive's future price will be much more than $0.21.

Don't miss your chance to create the future you desire for yourself by using this amazing freedom ecosystem.

I think people don't know what they have until they can no longer have access to it. It's going to be harder to own Hive with time and just like you've said it.

Well, for this blockchain, the time is now. Everybody has access to the token, you've just got to add value to those around you. If folks are smart, they'll take advantage.

This is a good analogy and I love the side story with the Sort Of...
Hive, the opportunity for those who bring value.
Who knows what Hive will be like in ten years.
But we are building for the future.

Hive will be very big soon and I also know the faucet won’t last forever
It’s better to stack up what we can now and not use it to buy pizza just like someone did, lol

Haha, that was Laszlo Hanyecz.

Yeah, there's a bunch of ways you can build your stack now, and they all boil down to providing value to others. Give value and receive value in return.

I was too late to the game to pick up 1 BTC from a single claim on a faucet! LOL! However, I've done well with good old FreeBitcoin over the years... ideally claiming satoshi while drinking beer! Never heard of California Hello, but "oak aged Berliner Weisse" sounds promising. I wonder if I can find it anywhere in Japan. In the meantime, let's make hay while the sun shines on Hive.

!ALIVE

California hello is from a comedy movie called The Beverly Hillbillies
!BEER

Ha ha! I didn't know that! I've heard of the show but have never watched it.

Hey @hirohurl, here is a little bit of BEER from @alex-rourke for you. Enjoy it!

If you like BEER and want to support us please consider voting @louis.witness on HIVE and on HIVE Engine.

Good points here. Btw that 5 Btc faucet is crazy. I remember 2010 pretty clearly as it was the year of my first big solo travel adventure (summer camp in the US) so it doesn´t even feel that long ago to me but from the crypto persective, it´s like the dinosaur era :D

@tipu curate 7

In crypto years it's a whole different era 😄. Yeah, I got some free BTC playing a casino game, everything else after that I bought.

We still have time to continue accumulating, I think about 3 or 4 more years, so let's continue strengthening ourselves, the future is today.

Yessir! keep building, learning and accumulating wealth.

I will do it as long as I can, because my situation is very difficult, but I am making perhaps the last great effort of my life in this! 😀

Every success desire needs sacrifice and that is one thing most hive newcomers are not willing to lay down. Some of them at the long run get discouraged when it seems upvotes are not coming their way

In every group of people there are some that think long term and some that are only capable of thinking short term.

Yeah, nobody knows. Relax and let the time decides.😊

Yeah, relax and build in the meantime :)

I like to accumulate Hive Power to have a say in what happens to this ecosystem. By being active, maybe I can help build the blockchain I envision for me and the community.

Same here.. 😁 I limit my delegation since I want to have more HP and trying my best to participate HPUD.😊

This may be in the form of investing money upfront, or investing time.

I have invested some money. But my time investment was greater. I have been here since december 2017. Few times I made a shorter or longer hiatus but always returned.

I know that I can't ever have enough HP and HBD. Still the future where we could no longer earn Hive by posting seems scary for me. This post made me realize that I may have much less time to gather Hive than I imagined. I want to be a big orca. I hoped to reach this goal in maybe another 10 years. But you are right, I might not have those 10 years because faucet could close before that.

I might not have those 10 years because faucet could close before that.

The inflation rate in Hive decreases at the rate of 0.01% per 250,000 blocks until it reaches 0.95%. 250K blocks is about 8.68 days.

According to this post by Dalz, Inflation is around 5.5% this year. At this rate, in about 10 years inflation will around 1%

My recommendation is to take advantage.

Hah yes I do remember those faucets. People would hustle to claim them every day.. lol if they hodled they would be quite rich now

Or the fact is that if the quantity is low but the value is high, then the thing becomes famous in the world

Nicely written. Dialogue delivery style gave thriller vibes.

First, I'm earning about 3.08% APR on my existing tokens, but trust me, it adds up.

Just a little correction. It's 3% on holding and doing nothing. If it's curating content, which is most cases is usually by following a trail then that's another 10%. It's actually 13% returns instead of 3% you wrote. I hope it's just a writing error.

There are still lots of very good Bitcoin Faucets out there where you can earn 1,000 Satoshi a day… but nobody wants to own Satoshi … they only want 5 Bitcoins… Oh well …

Haha who wouldn't want 5 Bitcorns???

Yeah, 1,000 sats is not bad at all.

I don't look for faucets any more but I do exchange work for BTC (or any other cryptocurrency for that matter). If you have a skill to offer that alleviates a pain point, there's an endless supply of clients begging to get rid of that pain. Value-for-value.
