Hey guys,
It's been more than a week since my last post. A huge Wow!! If you'd ask me, I was about to say that I wrote my last article 4-5 days ago.... I was really really busy this last week cause we had to do a lot of things and plus, it was Easter time here in Romania. The spring is here at last! And that involves some outdoor activities and chores to do.
What's new for you, as home educators? What activities did you try with your little ones these days?
Lately, we've read more books and we talked about seasons, mostly about Spring. 🌸
And because my 2yr and 3mo toddler likes to paint, I came out with this idea of creating some art: Cherry Blossom Tree. We tried 3 painting techniques and all three ways are fun and suitable for toddlers and preschoolars.
Besides painting and getting those fine motor skills at work, we talked about trees, how they change during the year and why is this happening. I showed him several books and we went outdoor to 'inspect' the cherry tree and its flowers.
We used Acrylic Paint for the paintings: pink, white and light pink colors. 🌸🌸🌸
For my son, this activity was both fun and educative. Learning at home doesn't always have to be rigorous and strict, especially with young children. And learning doesn't necessary have to be made in a space with four walls and a table.
My advice is to get creative in using effective learning methods compatible with your kid. Learning when walking outdoor, lying on the sofa with a book in your hand or while you and your family have dinner, all these moments are just the right opportunities to teach your child.
We make learning activities everywhere and anytime. We paint outside, we paint indoor. We paint at the 'regular' table but not always. One day, I even set-up his paintings tools and his little table in the middle of the garden, while I was doing my stuff there. We need to improvize things in order to survive with these little energy bombs. :d
First Techique: Spring Tree using Cotton Buds
For this one, you need a few ear sticks (cotton buds) and a tree trunk colored/printed on a white sheet of paper. For me it was easier to search for one and print it. 'Cause I must say...my drawing isn't quite pleasant! hahaha
So, we made the pink flowers using a bunch of ear sticks. I tied the sticks with a rubber band to make it easier holding it.
I say it turned out great! Caleb also wanted to put flowers on the trunk of the tree 😁🌸🌸 ... you just can't say No to a toddler, especially when he's in the middle of creation! lol :))
Second tehnique: Fingerpainting
There's no much to say here right? These little fingers are the cutest! My son loves to paint with his fingers, though I would say he prefers to use the brush.
Painting with fingers is called Dactilopictura in Romania. I think is the most beloved working technique for children of all ages. 😊
Getting messy and covered in paint is surely fun for the kids (at least for some).
Third technique: Spring tree painting using Lego parts
From all these three techniques, my baby boy loved the most painting with cotton buds.
Our trees were in full blossom here. I love this landscape so much! The flowers smell so beautiful!
Spring is the season that amazes me the most with its natural wonderful changes.
It's so amazing how all things, big and small ones, from plants to trees, from insects to mammals, they all get back to life in Spring.
Thank you for reading,
Have a great time with your loved ones!
