Greetings!

Flying a kite is fun, especially if you made your own kite. The happiness that you felt when the kite you made flew up above the sky is a memory of a lifetime. The time when the first kite that I made flew is still crystal clear in my memory. The same memory that I want to pass to my son.

It was before the 21st century when I last flew a kite here in my hometown (if I remember it right, it was the one and only time that I made and flew a kite in my lifetime). As far as I remember I made it using old newspapers, some cooked rice (as paste), and some nylon thread that I saved from bags of rice fertilizers. At the time I think I am only one of the two that ever flown a kite in my hometown.

This kite flying a been months in the making. I already planned it when we were still living in the big city. I said to myself "when we arrived home, I will see to it to build a kite for my son to fly". And that time is now, and it will be my son's first experience of flying a kite in his lifetime.

The kite that I made for my son took me about a few hours to complete since there was some destruction while I am making one. I made it using plastics from rice fertilizer bags, some rubber bands, bamboo sticks, and a nylon thread that my older sister gave me.

And while I am making the kite my son is so excited and he can't help but touch and hold some parts of the kite while I am making it.

My Son' First Kite Flying Time

And when I am finally done, it is kite flying time. At first, I demonstrated to my son how to properly hold the nylon thread that he has to watch out for it and hold it tight because he might let it go.

Additionally, I also gave an instruction to him that he has to keep his eyes on the kite because it might dive down when there is not enough wind, and if the kite dives down, I told him that he needs to pull the nylon thread whenever he sees the kite going down so that it will soar again.

Kite flying is fun and helps develop a child's motor skills especially hand and eye coordination because kite flying uses the hand and eyes to keep the kite flying. When a child sees the kite is going down his instinct will make him pull the nylon thread so that it will soar again.

And just as I thought he immediately understood how to fly a kite. At this moment, I taught him that in order for a kite to fly, a kite needs wind in order for it to fly.
