She struggled with her bag, she was going to speak to a small crowd, and she felt scared. She had rehearsed her speech but she was scared that she would not meet up to her expectations. They have always told her that she is a good writer, but she doubted that. She believed that good writers write in ways that capture their audience’s mind and attention. She believed that they have top-notch stories. She felt insecure; she wished to be at a state of perfection in her writing career.
She was called on the stage; she tried to gain her composure as she struggled with her words. They all sat attentive, and it dawned on her that they were listening. Her heart skipped faster when she began to give a talk on her newly launched book. She said all that she had crammed and spiced it. She enjoyed it, but as she stepped down from the stage, her mind replayed all that she had said. Her exit was followed by rounds of applause. They smiled at her but she could swear that it was more of an act of courtesy.
“You are good!” she heard the writer whom she had always admired and compared her writings with.
“Thank you” she said.
“I wish to see from your perspective one day and write the way you do. Your writings are exceptional, I must say.”
“You are good” played in her head and a wide smile drew across her face, it was genuine. She was unique and would not allow insecurities to stifle that unique nature.
