Right before any money comes my way, I have already made plans on what to do with it splitting into unequal halves where one goes directly into savings and the other for settling needs. To take it a step further I even programmed a certain financial app to withdraw a certain amount of money to locked up for a specified period the moment money deposited. This has helped a lot even in times of emergencies saving me from burdens and even accessing opportunities when they arise.

Even with this level of discipline, there moments when the temptations of the flesh becomes overwhelming and the mind starts accessing the wrong signals. The best thing to do is to wait and analyze the whole situation thoroughly, ask yourself if this purchase is absolutely necessary before rushing to buy something that will end up filling you with regret. However even if this method is effective, there is no guarantee that it'll work all the time because sometimes we will still buy things regardless of whether they are useful or not.
