Making leather projects can be so much fun and so gratifying when the end result looks really good. That’s how I feel about this dopp kit. I wouldn’t call this an easy build, positioning the gusset around the zipper piece was a process, but with a strong attention to detail it is a nice looking bag. There are so many different combinations that can be used to optimize the design.
Different types of leather, colors and lining can personalized the piece. The pattern also has the option of putting an applique on the sides. The mustache and the tool combo are included with the pattern. The banana applique was custom for use with the banana leather. (The leather is not made from bananas, it is referring to the yellow with brown highlights coloration).
I have used the toolkit bag to hold needles, thread and small leather tools and it worked great. I think the biggest suggestion I would give to someone who wanted to do this project is to follow the recommended leather weight, because if you go too heavy, it gets cumbersome and to stick with a metal zipper, I don’t trust the plastic to last with real use.
