Web2 walled gardens

in HivePoshyesterday

Every time I try to come up with a new initiative for POSH to help incentivize and reward our active members of our community growing their presence over there while in an attempt to drive traffic towards our ecosystem I keep hitting a wall.

As if it wasn't enough that Twitter's API made the automation of POSH tweet detection and rewarding system we've put so much time and effort into obsolete, I now noticed that you can't even check your analytics any longer unless you're paying Twitter. Aside from them telling you how many impressions you've had the past week on your profile now and then without being able to go into detail.

One thing I've learned over the years, though, is that we're quite resilient in this ecosystem. Blockchains in general are, with many in this day and age still being alive and active even though barely anyone uses them. I guess that's the great thing about this technology and I appreciate some of the core developers working on hive seeing to it that the cost to run it is being constantly developed on to keep as low as possible and allow anyone to enter governance and block production with as little hardware as possible.

While Twitter could continue to throw roadblocks at us, Reddit could block out their current free API access, I think we'll continue to find ways to incentivize people in one way or another to try and let the world know about our existence and get some rewards at the same time doing so. That's another thing I really love about Hive that the rewards-pool can be used in many different ways to reward contributions of different kinds as long as the ecosystem and stakeholders think it's being done for the right reasons.

So what are we planning for the foreseeable future in regards to POSH?

Here's a few things.

Weekly posts to gather top traffic analytics from sharers.

This could easily be in the form of comments, sharers could show screenshots of their top shares that week. Since both Reddit and Twitter offer these analytics (the latter partial) but only to the account owners, we'd have to rely on them sharing to showcase their activity. This could then be rewarded in the form of upvotes and delegations.

It'd be a good time now that we're trying to fund different things with @poshtoken to halt powerdown for a while and give good sharers additional delegations that'll affect their hive journey. These would remain active until the initiative ends or if the recipients stopped sharing actively.

For example, a weekly delegation of 1000 HP going to the top 5 that shared that week, potentially some restrictions so it's not always the same top 5 but not so much that they'd completely skip sharing the next week if they ended up winning the week before, maybe just one rank decrease for the next week thus still eligible for additional delegation.

Hive asset giveaways.

We've hosted quite a few game asset giveaways in the past, such as @splinterland packs, @wrestorgonline land, @muterra nfts, etc. We could restart these for increased sharing activity based on which game's assets we're giving away that week for sharers to earn some hive, posh and additional in-game assets.

We're looking forward to hosting a lot of different activities that bring some traffic and value to our ecosystem while rewarding those performing said sharing tasks.

We'll also continue to provide transparency reports of what the author reward funds are being used towards while maintaining a working project.

We'll have some extra liquid Hive coming our way to @poshtoken soon since at first we loaned @commentrewarder a bunch to manage liquidity of its tips, but thanks to @vcelier who out of the blue gifted @commentrewarder 10,000 Hive Power, we'll be able to take care of its liquidity by powering down some of that stake. Big shout-out to him as his generosity was a big motivation to continue building things on Hive!

Another big shout-out to @cryptoreforma and @x-rain for delivering some great experimentation of sharing in different subreddits to provide @poshtoken with a nice starting list to pin to the account so other sharers have an easier time finding hive-friendly link sharing subreddits in the future!

Thanks for reading and keep sharing!

Data is the new oil. Access to that is getting more and more difficult because these companies know how much it’s worth unfortunately. It’s for sure a walled garden but eventually I know we will break through.

So, the search-for-hive-friendly-subreddits program with two people involved (me and @cryptoreforma) has ended, right?

Great idea. In that case, if someone has shared a Hive link on a non-listed subreddit, they can report this and get extra POSH/HIVE reward for scouting Reddit for new Hive-friendly subs: for example, such POSH-comments can be generously upvoted by @redditposh.

Not necessarily, if you're still up for testing new subreddits not yet on the list we'll appreciate that as well to fill it up.

We promised $200-300 hbd in total so we'll try to split it up in a fair manner for continued "research". :D

:D Good to know. I will continue then. A fair manner sounds good. 👍 When I have a new portion of new subreddits, I will tell or share the same way as I did.

Love reading about what all the smart people are doing behind the scenes news to make this place what it is.

I covet the little bit of posh I have earned through the years as a token of trying to spread the word throughout my circles. Shit the only reason I have a hive account is to shill hive. ;)

Thanks to you, other leaders and the programmers for all the things I don’t even know about!

If X/Twitter is as bad as it is with these charges and difficulties, imagine here in Brazil, where X has been blocked since August 31st? It's complicated the moment we're living in, we already have very few active Brazilians and X was the easiest way to try to get an inleo curation for example, not that we have other sources, but it was the quickest and easiest way to share everything about Hive on the web2.

Anyway, we're trying to keep our friends here active and motivated to post, even though the current government of Brazil always plays against its people, we're trying not to lose any more people, while the onboards, we try at all costs to also bring in new people, but X was our best option in my opinion.

About your attempts to reward those who are trying to do something outside of hive, I've been sharing a bit about Hive both on my Instagram and in the Threads (from meta), waiting for X to come back. These are difficult times, but united we can win! Big hugs.

I'd suggest looking into reddit next, while it won't affect curation directly at this point in time, we may start some additional initiatives where we upvote/reward posts that get a lot of verified traffic from the outside. And you can always earn some rewards just by sharing any post of any author on there.

I've never used reddit much, I even created an account and linked everything correctly, but I didn't really adapt well to the platform, but nothing that a little study can't solve, I'll try to start using it more, thanks for the tip!

I noticed some of my posts on reddit are being removed by reddit's filters while some are not. Is there a guide on how we can comply with reddit?

Hello, in the comments of this post you have about 40 SubReddits that accept HIVE links.

However, always read the rules of each one (top right corner of each page) as moderators can make changes to the rules at any time. I took a look at your feed and you have a lot on Reddit to post.

Enjoy:

Thank you, I checked your list before posting hive links on reddit. I post Splinterlands content and it's included in the list. Reddit's filters remove my posts and not Splinterlands moderators.

You can also add r/RisingStarGame to your list. I post there too.

That's weird, maybe your account is too new? How much karma points do you have?

Well remembered. It already happened to me and the proof is in the annex.

SubReddit accepts HIVE links, but it didn't accept my post because my account is new.

Another important note, some SubReddits want a title that somehow has context with the purpose of the SubReddit.

For example, there is an analogue photography community that accepts HIVE links but it is necessary to add something that has to do with analogue photography in the title. So I put the name of the film I used, or the brand of developer I used, or the brand of the analog camera I took the photos with.

@logen9f Any questions you have or help you need, look for me on Discord @cryptoreforna
Rest assured.

Thank you. I'll probably need to raise my Karma as advised by acidyo.

OK. I will be available if you need me.

Ah that could be. My karma is low although my reddit account is older than my hive account. I don't use it and just revived it for linking hive account.

In the comments or notifications there is the reason for the problem.

The Splinterlands SubReddit accepts HIVE links as you can confirm in the attached screenshots.

Thanks for your attention, I've already added what you suggested to the list.

With raddit i think posh will do way better its just an effort of rinse and repeat and everything will be just fine. Learning how to leverage raddit though is an ideal fact

i think including reddit is a good idea, the largest subreddit specialized n crypto/ blockchains is "r/CryptoCurrency" it has about 8 million members while the active ones visiting the subreddit to read crypto/blockchain news r a couple of hundreds of thousands, they allow the rental of their banner by crypto/blockchain projects/companies, not sure how much does it cost but i think the banner costs $290, they also allow ama "ask me anything"-posts which is a pinned post for answering the answers of the interested ones n ur project, not sure but i think ama posts cost $115, "not sure because they allow their mods to negotiate & make discounts"
