After spending several days without writing or publishing in #Hive for personal reasons, today I decided to do it with this tribute to my beloved Charlie, with the intention of expressing through this text all my feelings and eternal gratitude for having had the fortune of knowing and living with this fabulous dog.
Charlie was a beautiful golden retriever. He was approximately 11 years old when one morning on March 17, 2019 he was rescued by my oldest son, coincidentally the same day as my birthday. He showed up on their doorstep, with a sweet smile, despite being in a total state of neglect, dirty, thirsty, malnourished and infected with fleas and ticks. He was so noble, he didn't seem to realize the state he was in, he only looked for and gave love.
After petting him, giving him water and food, my son took the dog to the vet where he was examined, groomed, disinfected, had his nails clipped, in short, had all his sanitary maintenance done, leaving him as good as new. After this, he proceeded to post a notice on social networks, as well as placing photos of the dog in several strategic places in his urbanization, in the hope that its owner would show up, but as you can imagine, there was no one to claim it. That is how the dog stayed with my son and he named him Charlie.
As time went by, on December 31st, approximately one year and eight months after being rescued, my son told me that for work reasons he had to make some trips and therefore he could not have Charlie anymore and with all the pain of his soul, he had no other choice but to offer him for adoption, unless I accepted, he would give him to me and he would continue to be in charge of his feeding, maintenance and veterinary control.
That is how Charlie came to live with me. I never imagined what this dog would mean in my life and in my family's life. He was an affectionate, polite dog, owner of an indescribable sweetness, he transmitted a lot of peace and love. He was always very happy, the only thing that dampened that happiness was that he could not be left alone. My son said that this was because Charlie had manifested abandonment syndrome and that is why when he felt lonely, he started to cry. Fortunately, in my house he was always accompanied, because there are many of us and there are always people in the house. However, we were very careful with this situation, making sure that Charlie did not have a bad time for any reason.
Charlie quickly won the affection of everyone in the house and even the neighbors. He was always happy, slept a lot, liked to lie on the floor in the hallways and near the doors, so we had to be careful not to trip him. He enjoyed parties a lot, sharing with my children's friends. On the street everyone had to see him, as he would greet everyone he met along the way. One of his greatest pleasures was to be taken for a walk, in one of those walks one day he met a girl who had been attacked by a golden, so she had been traumatized, to the point of not being able to approach any dog, because she was terrified of them. Miraculously Charlie, with his angelic face and sweetness, managed to break the girl's fear and thanks to him, she was able to overcome her trauma.
When someone came to the house, he was the first one to greet him/her, even if it was a stranger. This gave us a lot of laughter and we used to say what a guardian we had! One day a little niece came to visit us, and after spending some time with Charlie, she called our attention when she said:
- What a strange dog, he doesn't like to play, he only wants love!
Because Charlie was like that, he was pure love and carefree. He was our role model.
Last Father's Day, after having had a nice family day, Charlie unexpectedly left us. Suddenly we realized that he was feeling bad, we put him to bed, we were caressing him, talking with love, and with the warmth of the whole family around him he fell asleep forever. In spite of the sadness, it was a very sublime moment.
Since then we miss him immensely, although contradictorily we feel that he has not gone away, because his way of being, his smile and love remained impregnated in every corner of our house and our hearts. Aware of the mission he fulfilled in our lives, he left us more united, understanding and loving.

And just like that, out of the blue, without expecting it, Charlie came into your lives so that together you could share love. I am sorry he is no longer with you, but he spent his last years in a home.
That is exactly how it was. We were left with the great satisfaction of having known him and having given him a happy home.
