To tell you the story of Cinnamon, my beloved pet who is no longer on this world, I will tell you my vision of life and death.
Para contarles la historia de Canela, mi mascota amada que ya no está en este plano, quisiera hablar primero de mi visión de la vida y la muerte.
"Memento mori" and "Carpe Diem" are aphorisms that denote a philosophy of life. Both are related to the time of life that we have and that we must make the most of and humbly thank for the fact of having it here and now.
Memento mori y Carpe Diem son aforismos que denotan una filosofía de vida. Ambas hacen relación al tiempo de vida que tenemos y que hay que aprovechar al máximo y agradecer humildemente por el hecho de tenerlo aquí y ahora.
Since millennia, humans have been attracted to the natural fact of death and in some cultures (especially Asians) it is accepted without fear because they know how to live life without burdens, without slopes. Memento Mori is a Latin phrase that dates back to older Rome and means "remember that you will die."
Desde épocas milenarias el humano se ha sentido atraído por el hecho natural de la muerte y en algunas culturas (sobre todo la asiática) es aceptada sin miedo porque saben vivir la vida sin cargas, sin pendientes, sin temores. Memento Mori es una frase latina que se remonta a la antigua Roma y significa "recuerda que morirás".
As well, Carpe Diem is another Latin aphorism that means "live in the moment" is attributed to the poet Horacio and means that we must live in the present because it is the only thing we really have.
Por su parte, Carpe Diem es otro aforismo latino que significa "vive el momento" se le atribuye al poeta Horacio y quiere decir que debemos vivir el presente porque es lo único que realmente tenemos.
All animals live today as if there were no tomorrow, they do not stop to think or philosophize about things, they only live, interact with their environment, learn, grow, are happy or sad, play, feel, reproduce and die. It is the law that never fails.
Todos los animales viven el hoy como si no hubiera mañana, no se detienen a pensar o filosofar sobre las cosas, solo viven, interactúan con su entorno, aprenden, crecen, se contentan o entristecen, juegan, sienten, se reproducen y mueren. Es la ley que nunca falla.
That said, I will tell you about Canela's (Cinnamon's) life.
Dicho esto, les contaré sobre la vida de Canela.
Cinnamon was the name I gave to a beautiful 2-month-old puppy that I found in a market near my house. She was from a Tibetan breed called Lhasa Apso, her color was cinnamon brown and she seemed charming to me from the moment I saw her (then her color cleared). I took her out of the cage where she was and put her on my lap, by the time I realized she had fallen asleep and I completely fell in love.
Canela fue el nombre que le puse a una hermosa cachorrita de 2 meses de nacida que encontré en un mercadillo cerca de mi casa. Era de una raza tibetana llamada lhasa apso, su color era marrón canela y me pareció un encanto desde que la vi (después se aclaró su color). La saqué de la jaula en donde estaba y la puse en mi regazo, para cuando me di cuenta se había quedado dormida y me enamoré por completo.
My mother would not let me have a dog because of the care it entails, but in that sweet moment, she agreed to bring that puppy home. Since then she was my best friend, my baby, my companion.
Mi madre no me había dejado tener un perro por los cuidados que conlleva, pero en ese momento tan dulce, accedió a traer a esa cachorra a casa. Desde entonces fue mi mejor amiga, mi bebé, mi conpañera.
I was about 16 years old. Cinnamon walked with me without a chain through the streets, she was very playful and very sweet. She has destroyed several shoes, some balls, but nothing that could not be solved.
Yo tenía alrededor de 16 años de edad. Canela paseaba conmigo sin cadena por las calles, era muy juguetona y muy dulce. Me destrozó varios zapatos, algunas pelotas, pero nada que no se pudiera resolver.
She was with me in several important moments such as when I graduated from high school and then university, when I won a beauty pageant, when I lost family members and more. I was with her when one day walking, another puppy attacked her and I healed her wounds, she came out pregnant with 4 puppies (of which we still have 2 of them, the other 2 were taken by the owner of the father).
Estuvo conmigo en varios momentos importantes como cuando me gradué de bachiller y luego la Universidad, cuando gané un concurso de belleza, cuando perdí familiares y más. Yo estuve con ella cuando un día paseando, la atacó otro perrito y curé sus heridas, cuando salió preñada de 4 cachorritos (de los cuales todavía tenemos 2 de ellos, los otros 2 se los llevó la dueña del padre).
When I got married and left home, I couldn't bring her with me, but when I visited my mother she always greeted me with the same joy and love.
Cuando me casé y me fui de casa, no pude traerla conmigo, pero cuando visitaba a mi madre ella siempre me recibía con la misma alegría y amor.
I had my daughter, a few years passed and I returned home because the marriage did not work out. She was the first to greet me with emotion.
Tuve a mi hija, pasaron unos años y regresé a casa porque el matrimonio no funcionó. Ella fue la primera en recibirme con emoción.
One day a tumor began to grow on a teat. It grew to the size of a golf ball. A short time later, a hole began to open in her abdomen, secreting a slightly foul liquid. We knew it was cancer.
Un día empezó a crecerle un tumor en una tetica. Creció al tamaño de una pelota de golf. Poco tiempo después, empezó a abrirse un hueco en su abdomen que segregaba un líquido un poco pestilente. Supimos que era cáncer.
Cinnamon recovered from the opening but she was already old. She was over 17 years old. Her vision was deteriorating a lot, to the point that he tripped over everything. She could no longer go up to or on the bed because he did not have the same strength as before, however his joy and love were still intact.
Canela se recuperó de la abertura pero ya estaba viejita. Tenía más de 17 años. Su visión se fue deteriorando mucho, al punto que se tropezaba con todo. Ya no podía subir al sofá o a la cama porque no tenía la misma fuerza de antes, sin embargo su alegría y amor seguían intactos.
On December 24, we went to the capital to spend the holidays at the house of a cousin and we left the old woman with her children in the care of a friend who came to the house and took care of them during those days. When we returned, my mother went up to the apartment and found her lifeless near the door, waiting for our return.
Un 24 diciembre fuimos a la capital a pasar las fiestas en casa de una prima y dejamos a la viejita con sus hijos al cuidado de un amigo que venía a la casa y los atendía en esos días. Cuando volvimos, mi mamá subió al apartamento y la encontró sin vida cerca de la puerta, esperando nuestro regreso.
My mother spent days crying over the departure of our partner Canela. On the other hand, I was prepared. I knew that moment would come and it was very close.
Mi mamá pasó días llorando por la partida de nuestra compañera Canela. Yo en cambio estaba preparada. Sabía que en cualquier momento ese día llegaría y estaba muy cerca.
For me, she is irreplaceable. We still have the company of her children, who bring her to my memory, but with different nuances.
Para mí, ella es irremplazable. Todavía tenemos la compañía de sus hijos, que la traen a mi memoria, pero con matices distintos.
I still miss her, but she lived what she had to live, she enjoyed and loved like never before and that is, my friends, what we really have with the arrival of death. Therefore, live life, learn, grow, love, enjoy, respect and continue, because it is today that we have the opportunity.
Aún la extraño, pero vivió lo que tenía que vivir, disfrutó y amó como nunca y eso es, amigos míos, lo que realmente nos queda con la llegada de la muerte. Por eso, vive la vida, aprende, crece, ama, disfruta, respeta y sigue, porque es hoy que tenemos la oportunidad.

Así es, lo más seguro que tenemos todos es el día de nuestra partida. Canela era muy hermosa y recibió mucho amor de ustedes. Me parece una gran bendición que pudieron quedarse con dos de sus hijitos. He a ido el recuerdo permanente. Gracias por compartir tu historia. Saludos, un abrazo.
