From left to right Sakura & Haru
You all might have met Sakura already in my previous blog. This time around, I would like to introduce one of her daughters, named Haru. If Sakura means ‘cherry blossom’, Haru translated is ‘spring’ therefore there is that undeniable connection similar to a mother and a daughter.
When Haru was born we did not know that she was suffering from a malformation. Only when she got a few weeks older we noticed that she has some sort of a cut on her upper lip. We immediately researched about dogs with cleft lips and palates and to our sorrow we read that the survival rate of dogs with a cleft palate isn’t good at all. We were very sad and worried about her but luckily when she yawned once we could get a peak at her palate and verified that it is actually intact. That was such a relief for us. It meant that her defect was just superficial.
Haru is the smaller one 😊
Nonetheless, we had to take extra care of her. She had difficulties with feeding from Sakura therefore we had to bottle feed her regularly in order for her to get the nutrients she needed. On a daily basis we would monitor her weight to see if she was actually gaining. Even though not with breakthrough records she was indeed growing.
The love and effort we gave her was rewarded with a very happy and cheerful puppy. She has grown up as a sweet and loving dog who can also be cheeky at times. She would follow me wherever I go and as soon as I sit down she would hop on my lap and snug herself in until she falls asleep.
Her appetite is that of a big grown up dog so her cleft lip does not really cause her any trouble. She is very playful and a bit cheeky…cheeky on the sweet side.
We got her a little stair so that she can climb up the sofa and she has a little den where she would escape and most of the time hide her treats from her mom. 😅
During night time she won’t leave your side and she will insist sleeping on the bed rather than in her own place. She would even sneak under the duvet and make herself cosy.
So this is Haru with her everlasting smile. She is the cutest and sweetest puppy!
She brings a lot of joy to our life. 😍
