Stop dog culling !

That is a campaign I've seen around online communities in Canggu. I have been following the case a bit closely just because I wondered who on earth would think about getting rid of dogs that are also part of Bali's living charm. In Bali, there are many dogs who roam around the beach and the street freely. Even some of them have owners but are still let roam free. Living there for a short term, the dogs have become a regular sight and in fact, a playful companion when I visit the beach. I never encountered any dog who looked aggressive or wanted to bite me. However, from the news that I read there are rabies cases but it's mostly on the rural side of Bali with more dogs that are wild. So, it was a strange situation around Berawa which from what I see is filled with either expats or locals who would vaccinate their dogs. Not to mention, around the area, there are many vets offering free vaccination for the dogs. As for humans, there are rabies vaccinations in clinics though I never know how much it would that one cost. It's interesting how the case plays out and many assumptions were made since Bali is reopening and there would be more tourists around. But, I fail to see that the dogs around the area mentioned are harmful, in fact they all look pretty docile and well-behaved. When you're like me, who happen to stay at a Balinese family styled house, expect to have some dogs with around. The only time I don't see a dog is when I live at a hotel and at a place that aren't Balinese style. The picture you see above, he's called "Kribo" and I forgot the other one. He barked really loud when I first arrived and sniffed around my bags and my trousers. I think that was normal because they want to be familiarized with my presence. After a while, they are fine with my presence around the house. When I arrived late at night, kribo would follow me until my room and made sure I entered it. After a while, he would leave. He never entered my room, just quietly escorting me back. At first, to me they look intimidating but they were actually really nice.

Fuck me! I understand someone who's afraid of dogs.. but we can tell a lot from someone who does harm to dogs--that's just not right.

It's not right, that's why there were backlash from the local community, online and offline. It's simply not right that just because some dogs have rabies, not all of them do. In fact, many vaccinations are also free and is offered now and then. In that upscale place, most dogs are vaccinated as well. So, it was just wrong to suddenly poison the dog's food on the street and even trying to kill them by giving food with poison.
