RE: Myths And Facts

in Hive Pets18 hours ago

My son and his wife adopted a Rhodesian Ridgeback/dachshund. She was a red flag adoption meaning they were this little girl's last chance. If she didn't make it with them, then she would be put down. She had been abused, had major anxiety issues and had been adopted out twice before and returned twice. My son is very tenacious. He knew what he was getting into and would not give up on her. I am happy to say she did not give up on them either! She's been with them for over 8 years. We 'grand-dog' sit when they have to travel out of the country for his wife's family. She is the most awesome little dog there ever was and they aptly named her Phoenix.

You are correct that not all shelter dogs are problems, although there are probably a lot that are. The dogs do not ask for what life hands out to them and it's our responsibility, I think, to give them that second chance.

Thank you for sharing Skipper and your story. Take care and enjoy him!

That's great to hear. And if you know what you're getting into and have the insight to guide a dog, then almost every dog is a loyal friend. Indeed, dogs don't ask for it, and almost always, human intervention causes the problems. Mistakes are easily made, probably not consciously. But the consequences for the dogs that it happens to are huge. Fortunately, Phoenix has found a fantastic home and also got two lovely dog sitters as a bonus.

Thank you for sharing this story, it made me happy to read it.
