The story behind my daughter's kitten and a House made of cardboard...

Believe it or not, I was writing this post, there was a brief power cut in my city, and without realising it I fell asleep.... It's the little things that go hand in hand with creating little stories for you. Just as you have read in the title of that post; my daughter and I, have built a little house out of cardboard for our kitty; Elsa. I would love to take credit for the idea, but I would be lying to you and that's something I hate....

Although it wasn't my own idea, or my daughter's, how we came up with it is curious... She and I were coming from doing some shopping at the supermarket and when we passed by an old and abandoned shopping centre near our home, we noticed a house made entirely of cardboard, in three dimensions, and perfectly designed and carved by a person we didn't know. And who was also not the owner of the cat we saw, but who had won the heart of this talented and kind person, to the point of building it a home.

And it was absolutely touching. We were just passing through that place, and without expecting it, we saw this majestic little house. Humble, with nothing painted on it, but with an impressive mastery of execution. I thought that as the days went by my daughter would forget that image and experience but I couldn't have been more wrong because it would have been impossible.... In fact, for most of the Saturday that just passed, we were both watching YouTube models of house building with recycled materials, we went to buy some paint, and we decided to spoil our incredibly spoiled cat, Elsa.

A simple actor of inspiration leading to love is all that is right in the world. A stranger's ingenuity and skill made a construction to give love and protection to a kitten who has no family, but is still loved and cared for; the randomness of life intertwines his action and our paths in an act of admiration-respect, to a few days later infect with love a little animal that is adored by everyone in my house. You can't imagine how much we love Elsa. She is our protector but also my daughter's friend. They are the same age (9 years old). They take care of each other and are accomplices in everything.

Cats, but pets in general, recognise the love that we are able to give them, and it's really lovely to know that. While it is well known that felines love cardboard boxes, it is no less true that Elsa was not familiar with the concept of a cat house. Even less so with the decorations and the smell of paint, and yet I think she looks happy, cheerful and at ease in the photographs. We humans are privileged to be able to count on the love that they (our pets, whatever we have) do not give. They ask for nothing in return, just a little love, food and friendship. Although it is a little cardboard house made by a little girl for her cat, I believe that the symbol and the love, the real message behind this curious story. Elsa, my daughter's cat and the story of how we built her little house out of cardboard.
