Bin & Ben: Twin Kittens at Home

In mid-December 2024, my house was visited by two kittens. They looked healthy, no wounds, no signs that these two kittens had ever experienced starvation or physical violence. And I didn't need to do any special care for them except to accept them by routinely feeding them and providing a comfortable place.

I used to put them inside the house. But for some reason, I often found these two kittens, preferring to just hang around in the yard. At night, when they first arrived, they always meowed loudly when they were inside the house. At first I was confused, but it didn't last long, because after opening the door and both of them strolled out, they didn't meow anymore except to lie down relaxedly on the porch.

This happened several times, until I finally concluded that the two kittens were more comfortable outside than being locked up inside, especially at night. So, I provided a special box that I lined with three pieces of used cloth inside, and the next night I found the two kittens sleeping soundly there.

I was also happy to find my new guests. Especially knowing their habits that feel more comfortable outside the house than inside, and I thought, these two kittens have learned manners and politeness long before coming to my house. The days after, I felt like I had new friends at home. Both of them would slide on my calves every time I was about to go to work, even when I came home in the evening.

Since their arrival and understanding their habits, I live my days with new responsibilities: making sure they are comfortable in my house, and of course one of the most technical things is providing food every day. Especially before going to work and at night too. For my new responsibility, I do it happily, even though at first I had doubts that these two kittens might have their own owners, and will definitely be taken back one day.

But after more than a week, none of the neighbors looked for them, and even when I asked some people if anyone had lost a kitten and they shook their heads. I became convinced that these two kittens were special guests who came to welcome the new year with me. Then I decided to name them Bin and Ben.

It took more than a week to convince these kittens that they both had names. Because their fur color patterns were identical, sometimes I called them wrongly and this really confused me at the beginning of naming them. But today, exactly a month after Bin and Ben arrived, I already know exactly the ins and outs of both of them. Likewise between Bin and Ben, both of them also understand their respective names.

That's the story of how I got new friends at home. The presence of Bin and Ben who have been in my house for a month, and the fact that since then both of them have never been far from home is a sign that Bin and Ben are comfortable living with me. And I choose to celebrate it by sharing stories and photos of both of them in this post. Ciao and wassalamu...
