STEMng Digest: Welcome to 2024

in StemSociallast year

It was the toughest year ever. Everything appeared to be against you. It was like the whole universe conspired to stand against you. None of your endeavours ended positively. 2023 is a year to forget.

But guess what? You are still here. Breathing in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. Still able to read this digest. Something in you is still alive.

I am not a motivational writer, but the fact that you still have your life intact means that your fortune could change. Just one positive outcome, and all other things can fall in place. Will you rather give up?

Welcome to 2024 and our first edition of STEMng Digest for the year.

Who are we?

STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain are highlighted weekly.

Below are the posts that made it into our digest for this week:

A Medical Case Study- When Leftover Food Causes Medical Dilemma
Gather here for you are a pasta or spaghetti lover. Our first featuring post for the year 2024 is even more appropriate for a festive period that we are in. Left over foods are usually abundant and in order to forestall wastage, we tend to refrigerate them. However, we could be signing our own death warrant if care is not taken, especially if the refrigerated food is a pasta or spag. Read the post to understand what I'm saying.1.@eni-ola:

What exactly might be going on in your body when you experience Hiccups ? Find out
I'm certain everyone reading this have hiccuped at some points in their existence. Some of us who are science inclined may have already know what causes the phenomenon, while this post represents a good article to know for those who don't already know. It is also interesting to know that some hiccups may last unusually longer than others. What happened in this case? Just read this article.2.@sam9999:

The Paradox of Memory: Making Room for the New by Letting Go of the Old
Can you recollect everything you have done today? I guess yes. How about everything you did on a particular day about 10 years ago? I guess no. Does it mean your brain deletes old memories to make room for new ones? This may not be a simple yes or no. If you really wish to know the answer, then this article beckons. A short but interesting read about how our brain makes memories and why some memories may be difficult to recall.3.@thomisin:

Is being Vegan worth it?
Here is a post that dives into a lifestyle of plant eating, excluding anything that has to do with meat. In case you don't already know, there are many humans across the globe that will only eat plants and or plant-based diets. They are called vegans. However, this lifestyle do comes with several challenges. Some of these challenges is what the author here highlighted, eventually begetting the question if the vegan lifestyle is actually worth it.4.@jsalvage:

Nigerian Oil Choices, Heart Disease and, Obesity (The Elephant in the Room)

Fat and oil are essential components of our bodies. This means that we need them in our diets in order to stay healthy. Unfortunately, some components of these fats and oils are also cantankerous to our well-being. Thus, it is vital to know and understand the components of every oil we use so as to stay safe. Our final article for this week talks extensively about our options in Nigeria and how to choose the best.5.@ebingo:
