Hello everyone, It's my hope that everyone here is doing well by the grace of God. Haven't been active here due to some tight schedules with regards to community outreach engagements on climate change and matters relating to that and how we can collectively reduce its menace as concerned citizens.
As I earlier made it clear in my previous post, this engagement is one of a kind that is sponsored by ACTIONAID by been spearheaded by ACTIVISTA.
As part of the project, this week we visited "Nyarung" ,a community under the Sagnarigu district in Tamale Ghana.
As I said in my previous post, we intend visiting some selected communities and this was the second community we visited.
It was an awesome experience at the community. We were welcomed very well at the chief palace and the chief the people living in the community were very happy to see us.
Upon our arrival at the chief palace, we did all protocols with regards to the community entry processes and with the chief and some elders of the community, we deliberated on what brought us to the community and what we intend doing.
We deliberated on the need to stop bush fires, we also deliberated on the need to stop cutting down trees and inculcate the habit of planting trees whenever a tree is cut down, we also deliberated on the need to start the usage of organic fertilizers and to away with inorganic fertilizers and how it's harmful to our soils and our climate. We also deliberated on the need to always keep the environment clean.
These where some of the issues we discussed with the chief and elders and we advised them to create laws so that culprits who goes against these laws will be held responsible and be punished.
It's was now time to go door to door to engage the people about climate related issues and it's effects on our climate and livelihoods.
These where some of the responses we got from the people living in the community.
The people discussed their challenges in their community with regards to climate change.
They said urbanization has lead to cutting down of trees.
Ownership of trees leading to dismantling of trees without any questioning.
Theft cases of animals leading to the inability of arranging compost or organic manure (animal droppings) for organic farming.
Dismantling of trees all because of ceremonies for firewood to grace occasions.
Cutting down of trees as a source of garden sticks for fencing.
All in all, we had greats conversations with the people and I'm sure it will go a long way impacting on the lives of the people and the community at large.
Thank you for reading
Great projects you guys are doing. But the main pain is, if the government doesn't support with their power, we won't see nothing. The cutting of trees by self-acclaimed owners is something that the government should look at. If not, that is how all our trees will go and even the chiefs cant even question them for cutting them down. Something should be done. MAybe these projects should be aired well for the government to see the reality of what is on the grounds.
Thanks for sharing.
Yes we are working hand in hand to see how we can solve this problems....we need to have a conducive and a harmonious environment to live and that's our core mandate
