In the wisdom of God, He knows the reasons of creating every creature and the benefits to the environment.
However, due to human activities, we have made most of these animals extinct from our ecology. Even if they are still there they are minimal compare to previous days.
Just yesterday, I was watching some documentary and one of these animals which have extinct is "the vulture!"
We see vulture as the "scavenger animal" which feed on dead or carcass. We mostly find it at places such as disposed refuse where we have discarded left overs and unhealthy materials.
To this reasons, we consider vulture as unhealthy creature among the arboreal ecosystem. We have relegated this animal to the background to the extent that we kill them for nothing.
When we come to my Country Ghana, this animal is abominable to be consumed and even it's illegal to see chop bars or anyone eating vulture as a meat. But, most Hunter secretly shoot them with guns whenever they see them. It's very sad to hear that some people even poison vultures because they think they are unhealthy animals and they might be eradicated from the space of the World.
But, studies shows shows that, vulture reduce the spread of pathogens which might cause the spread of diseases around our environment. Let's consider it in this way, when anthrax disease from cattle is spread, the infested cattle are culled or kill, buried or even discarded. This scavenger vulture would eat these carcasses of the anthrax. Likewise the refuse on our surroundings are being eaten by these scavenger vulture.
To some extent, the diseases which would have been spread through the carcass of the these infested animals which have been buried are being carried by these vultures.
One might thing that then the vulture would die as a result of eating the carcass of infested animals. The secret is that, there is an enzymes or natural chemicals in the stomach and ileum of the vulture that acts like anti bodies to fight against any diseases of bacteria that enters the stomach or the ileum. So, it's beyond our imagination why vultures are able to eat all sort of unhealthy meat but do not die.
Studies shows that apart from vultures eradication of a lot of diseases through scavenging, their feathers are very special for making some vital chemical.
We no long see most of these scavenger vulture on our environment as they used to be since human activities have led them gone extinct. Most Hunters become annoy when they see them scavenging on the environment. They think that they are unhealthy animals.
Despite these misconceptions, some Countries eat the meat of few vultures around and even trade with the hunted vulture for many purposes.
We ask ourselves today, what are the way forward to bring back many vultures in our environment. We leave to matter to wild life and games. There should also be some regulations to protect the lives of vultures around.
Talking about the extinction of vultures, the same situation has been found in the kingdom of "Elephants!" Gradually their population are declining. Elephants are such animals which aren't many in our ecology. But, the few ones are being hunted by people who illegally hunt them for ivory which is very vital component of the elephant's body.
Most hunters kill elephant due to they ivory they want to get and sell for money. Ivory is such expensive since they are used for many things.
Because of ivory most of elephants too have gone extinct. Even though it's illegal, yet hunters hide and kill few elephants around. For most places like Africa, most elephants have been eradicated from our forests due to continuous shooting of guns to kill the elephants.
It's about time we protect some of these animals on our environment. Our quest for money can't jeopardize the lives of these animals and let them go extinct. Some animals by nature do not give birth to many offsprings, hence if their lives too are endangered due to human activities would definitely let them go extinct from our ecology.
I will say one of the things affecting is that there is no structure in place to keep some animals still in existence
That's very true. I really agree. Even though some Countries have banned the killing of some of these endangered animals, yet some people still kill them. So, we need to get some structures in place.
Yea very true
