The Science behind Dreaming

in StemSocial7 months ago

Hello Stemsocial Community! Welcome to my blog. My family is disturbed due to the bad Mental Health of one of my siblings who is 10 years old. His sleep-wake cycle is affected a lot due to continuous nightmares. Today we visited a doctor to seek technical guidance from him. Hence I have decided to share here what I learned from him as well as what my knowledge says about dreaming and nightmares.

Dreaming is good for maintaining sound and healthy mental health. If we are not dreaming well, we are not sleeping well. The dream is the byproduct of different pieces of information either they are from our real life or they are from thinking related to the world of fantasy. The brain is the center of all dreams. It has the following important parts.

  • Forebrain
  • Midbrain
  • Hindbrain

Many parts in the forebrain helped in the composition of dream. Visual Cortex in forebrain is involved in thinking, processing and analysis of data. Hippocampus and Amygdala both form different components of dream. Hippocampus is the in-charge of dream composition.

When a hippopotamus activates a dream, rapid eye movement initiates by different thoughts. There are many school of thoughts about dreams. Some of these theories are narrated by Peers, religious people and philosophers. It had been seen that people with brain tumor are suffered by the absence of dreams. Dreams resulted when we are sleeping deep. But when we are half sleepy then we can't see dreams. There are several types of dreams.

  • Daydream
  • False Awakening

  • Lucid Dreams

Nightmares leave permeant impressions in our memories. While the other happy, cool and supportive dreams make short term memory. Nightmare can be dangerous for smooth sleep. It disturbs our sleep. People who are under continuous series of nightmares found unable to sleep. If we are facing with this situation then we should take help from technical guidance from Psychologist and Physicians.

It didn't have any doubt. It is an important part and has an important role in memory development.
