Vermont Feed Store - Market Friday

S.E. Smith Co. Feed Store, West Rutland, Vermont

I finally have a post for #marketfriday hosted by @dswigle. I've posted a Market Friday post before but don't find anything interesting very often. This week I stumbled upon this classic small town Vermont feed store. I was looking for greensand which is surprising hard to find. For the uninitiated, greensand is glauconite which contains iron, potassium and magnisium. It is used in organic gardening as a soil amendment.

The feed store had a nice seasonal display of hanging baskets and plants. Inside its a dusty old feed store. Rough wood plank floor. 50 lbs bags stacked along the walls and under display tables. Small rooms that have been strung together seeming randomly to fit in all the merchandise.

In addition to farm and gardening products, they carry pet foods for chicken, horses, and other stock. The staff is also part of the small town vibe. Very friendly. When I asked where the greensand was, he replied "Are you the guy that called yesterday?" And hustling. Checked me out then pushed open the door for me as he disappeared into another room to check on an item for another customer

There were additional (cute) out buildings with various other products like gravel, mulch, top soil, et cetera.

S.E. Smith Company Feed Store is located in West Rutland - a small town of about 2000 people in west central Vermont.

Have a happy Friday everyone 🙂

It’s great to see stores like this… with a properly small town feel to it. Community… like everybody knows everybody. Great in many ways, but there are a few that’s less great. 😉 I wouldn’t mind living in one of those towns 😁

You can post anything in the marketfriday post when it had a transaction of money. Even a dinner out or lunch, or train ride, getting petrol you name it. Maybe this helps a bit to find some more posts for you to post in this great community @steven-patrick

Happy Friday 👋🏻☀️

Thanks for checking out my post littlebee. I grew up in a small town. I know all about "everybody knows everybody" haha

You are so welcome @steven-patrick 😁 than you know what I mean haha 😉
Happy weekend! 👋🏻

love the flowers that were hanged there. And oh! the houses are cute. It always intrigued me how houses and buildings there aren't fully fenced!

Thanks for checking out my post. Can't steal anything because everybody knows everybody lol But seriously rural Vermont is crazy that way. There are farms that put eggs out by the road with a sign that says $3 and a coffee can to drop the money in 🙂

Cool store in this little town

Yes it was a pleasant surprise. I drove there to pick up greensand and had no idea what to expect.

This is great, you made a nice post.

Thanks for checking out my post 🙂 Happy Friday

I need to get some hanging baskets for outside my house.

Nice photos, thanks for sharing them.

Thanks for checking out my post Rentmoney

This place reminds me of the old feed store where I grew up, they always had a spiral metal slide thing full of baby chickens inside as well.

Its a real throw back. Lots of fun. I didn't see chickens but they would have fit right in. I actually worked at a feed store for a few summers when I was in college 😊
