I know last time I promised to bring you to the other corners of Carbon Public Market. Well, today is the day!

Hello fellow market enthusiasts! It's another #MarketFriday by @dswigle to share another glimpse inside the biggest public market in Cebu City. Are you excited about which portion of the market I'll bring you today! Come along!

Sometime late last year, my boyfriend and I went to Carbon Public Market to buy supplies for our weekend get-together with my closest college bodies. As the "mother" of the group, it's my task to prepare the most delicious homecooked meals for my friends. Of course, to make sure I only cook what they want, they participated in planning what food we'll eat during our weekend staycation. They requested grilled squid, carbonara (I cooked this one from scratch! 😁), chicken adobo, sweet and sour fish, and grilled pork belly to name a few. There were a dozen of us so yeah, it was my first time preparing food for a big group. Although I've cooked for our town's fiesta celebration that same year, I had my father to help me with the shopping and cooking, but this time, I'm also tasked to buy the ingredients.

It's a no-brainer that in events like this, I'd definitely run to Carbon where I could buy almost all my needs. My boyfriend fetched me at the place I'm renting and off we went to Carbon as early as 5:37 AM. The bulk of what we bought that morning was displayed in the wet section of the market; that's the place where the meat including pork, chicken, beef, fish and processed meat products such as chorizo, hotdogs, skinless, longganiza among others are displayed. If you really come to Carbon early you'll witness the heaps of everything you could think of. I've been to Carbon countless times but I'm still amazed every time I return. I always discover new kinds of fish; they could be too colorful on some visits including this one.

In the last photo, you'll see my boyfriend nailing the ingredient preparation. He patiently prepared all the ingredients so I'll only have to focus on cooking. 🥰 And yup, we bought a lot. I forgot to take photos of the big fishes and meat we cooked that weekend. Nonetheless, if you have big upncoming events you'll need ingredients for, Carbon is indeed the place to go!

Have a blast this Friday, fellas!

Hoooooyyy kalami ba ani tanan! Maka suyaaaa!

I miss Carbon Public Market. I remember back when I was around 12 years old, my sister and I used to buy Indian Mangoes for business. We used to sell it along Hernan Cortes Street (Mandaue City), where we lived before. We usually left the house around 5AM, just in time to catch the newly-arrived fresh mangoes.

Thanks @patsitivity for touring us, as if I was there, too! ❤️

It's my pleasure @kevcolina! I hope you can visit Cebu and Carbon Public Market soon. P.S. There's an ongoing renovation! 😁

Kalami sa seafoods oyyy.

Yes, pero mas lami gihapon kanang fresh from Bantayan catch! hehe

Seems like Carbon Public Market is very popular for seafoods.

All kinds of meat actually, @madushanka. But we also have a separate market for fish alone. I haven't visited the place for such a long time, but as far as I could remember, it's like a feast of fish there every dawn. 😊

This market is so big and those fish and meat caught me. They look so beautiful and fresh. I love how the things are arranged, it makes me want to travel to Cebu now to get some food stuffs, !LOLZ 😂😂.
This is nice, thank you for sharing this with us @patsitivity.

It's my pleasure to give you guys a virtual tour of the kind of markets we have here in Cebu, PH @hopestylist! I do hope you can visit here so you'll see for yourself, for now, I hope I gave justice to this post. 😁

Yeah, you did a really good job with the shots, and you brought the market to life with these photos.

You're welcome by the way 💕💕.

I remember I and my cousin used to visit the Carbon market for lunch since it was really just across the street of the school we went to ...the USJR. We would buy the rice packed in the palm leaves and we would eat the famous chorizo or tocino of Cebu, all cooked and ready for lunch. The most that I always visited were the stores that sell handicrafts, bayong, baskets and natural fiber made boxes, etc... I was born in Banawa, Guadalupe but my parents went to Manila when I was a baby and grew up there. My Dad was assigned to build the Pink Sister Monastery in `71, I had to change school and that was how I landed at USJR for the 4th year HS. "Nagkanga kanga ko" speaking in Cebuano because I understand the dialect but it was hard to speak it. All in all, it was one of the most hilarious and really fun times I had to have experienced living there . Fond memories indeed! Thank you for sharing this market.

I'm not sure why I didn't know you were born in the Philippines!

Hi Denise...Maybe because I post most of my experiences in Europe since I live here for almost 40 years now.

Hi @mers, it's nice to know you're from Cebu! I was born and raised in Cebu but it was only in college when I went to Cebu City and that was the first time I was exposed to Carbon Market.

Puso! You can still find it in Carbon and all over Cebu these days, nothing's changed! Still the go-to especially when families go to beach outings

The most that I always visited were the stores that sell handicrafts, bayong, baskets and natural fiber-made boxes, etc

For this one, still the same. There's still a portion of Carbon near USJR where handicrafts are displayed.

Have you heard about the news of Carbon's renovation? They're planning to modernize the market's design. https://www.rappler.com/nation/carbon-market-cebu-city-new-look-february-2021/

Yep, I learned about the modernization from my cousins from Guadalupe. The last time I visited Cebu was in 2019. So much have changed. I think I will visit again and hopefully the modernization will go through. Thanks for the link.

A complete traditional market for food needs, fresh fish ,also many choices. Thank you.

Yes that's true, based on historical claims, this market has been around since 100 yrs ago.

So fun to be the mother of the group and prepare it all… for the get together.
Great market with a lot of fish, and so colourful they are 😉

What a great kitchen help you have… preparing and you can cook. Especially with that much to do.
I cook and my hubby washes up… also a great help in that way 😎
Have a wonderful Friday 👋🏻😁

That's the way to go! Chores should be shared at home. It's tiring to do everything, right @littlebee4? hehe
Great week ahead!

Yes, luckily my hubby and I are on one line in that. We do both our share… it makes it more fun that way. Not just one person is working all the time 😁👋🏻
Thanks so much @patsitivity 😃 have a great week too!
