Strolling over the market with all kinds of freshness

in Market Friday4 months ago

I really hate bargaining for products so I kind of refuse to do that. That is why markets in general in foreign countries don't really grasp my attention, or when I just need something and then it is also fine I pay an overprice on it.

Just the whole 'hey..I'm trying to get the price out of you and otherwise walk away' kind of thing is just really something I despize. Luckily in Netherlands you usually only need to do some bargaining when buying furniture or a car or something at one of those hussler dealers and again luckily ...that doesn’t happen very often.

Back to the freshness!

Because these markets are the kind markets why food in Vietnam is so damn tastefull. Because everything thst is sold on that market seems that is so fresh, that it was still on the land somewhere in the morning. Just look at the colours on those veggies! Not a single thing looks like it will spoil any time soon and that is different to say compared to the veggies that you get in supermarkets for instance in the Netherlands.

Sea food

Even when you towards the sea food section it all smells just like everything is fresh. You know the smell of when passing through a fish market right? It is kind of something typical.

But these fish are all still alive in the blue baskets, where sea water is just within the baskets as well. And on the basket on top there is cold ice. For me the idea of heading towards the fish market is best to do in the morning, since the fishing itself here is like a night activity. In the sea you can see all kinds of boats doing something and in the morning you all see them heading back towards land.

That is why you eat sea food near the ocean and land food when you are further away. Ditch the transport time. More cost effective and more freshness effective.

Random other stuff

One of the things I see people walking around with are plastic bags with stuff. Often this is like a spicemix for something like a curry or a stir fry but in this case it is the dried stuff that you can toss into soup.

Or what about in this stall the spikey lichées as an awesome fruit or some aloe vera leaves as skin moisturizer. Or even the gigantic gingers as an spice. Man I don’t know where to start with.

What I do like is how calm these markets are. Not calm as in that there are no people. There are actually a lot of people.

But that walking people and scooters and everything is popping in and out and it seems that no one has so shout anything to make their sale. It is just peaceful and you can take the time to see if you want anything.

I ended up leaving with a bag of dried fruit because it is an awesome snack to take anywhere. Yummy!!
